When I bought my 1969 new, I asked the salesman where the inside mirror was. He responded that on the '69s an inside mirror was an option until later in the '69 model year. This is verified based on the 1969 Chevy truck "info kit" (https://www.gm.com/heritage/archive/...formation-kits) which contains info regarding included and optional equipment. The option code was D36. Also, there were no pre-drilled holes for a mirror. I believe the mounting bracket shown above was actually for a '67.

Sure is a weird thing to think about today that even a standard inside review mirror was optional.

Are you sure that is factory installed? That looks like a 64-66 mirror to me.

I have (2) 1969's built on the same day 8-26-68 and both have that same mirror installed which is a real coincodence. I have not owned either since new so I will have to say they were both added after they left factory by who knows who. Sorry to LockDoc for polluting your thread. Awesome truck, congrats again. |

Re: Bought My Uncles '69 Chevy 1/2 Ton Today

Well 4 months later we finally have the title straightened out on the Uncles '69. I picked it up this morning. I got it started and backed it out of the garage. I had to remove the distributor cap and file the corrosion off of the points to get it to fire up. I also siphoned the old gas out and put in some fresh stuff. It runs really good for sitting for so long. After letting it idle for a while after I backed it out of the garage it would die when I put it in gear to drive it up on the trailer. I went ahead and pulled it up on the trailer with the winch. I'm betting the fuel filter is plugged up. The two flat tires held air after being pumped up but they will all need to be replaced. I took it in to the car wash before I unloaded it because it makes it really easy to wash underneath when it is on the trailer. First picture is after I backed it out of the garage, second is after I got it home and before I took it to the car wash, the other three pictures are after spending $15 on it at the car wash.... Now I will CLR it and go over it by hand with Turtle Wax White Polishing Compound after that. .

Thanks Keith. I had another maroon '69 years ago but it was so rusty I couldn't save it. Looking forward to doing a little detailing on this one. ,

Re: Bought My Uncles '69 Chevy 1/2 Ton Today
Great score, Doc. Good to keep a good truck in the Family.
That cleaned up nice. With regard to the inside Mirror Mount: Yours looks like the Economy option. My '68 C/10 Stepside came with the style CKFan shows. My '67 K/10 Suburban had a '72 windshield mount when I bought it. Aftermarket -- bounced at speed. I had a '68 mount as a spare [cannibalized from my Dad's '64 Olds wagon, I think]. So my Sub got the same mount as the Stepside. No more bounce. I have the adjustable angle mirror mount in my '71 Jimmy. The sight picture to get a view out the back of the K/5 liftgate hatch glass takes some ajdustment. A fixed angle arm works OK in a pickup cab.

Great truck and color combo is cool. It's amazing what a bit of soap and water can do.

Re: Bought My Uncles '69 Chevy 1/2 Ton Today
She's a real dandy. It really cleaned up nice. My GTO was a very similar color from the factory. It's was an uncommon color for the cars too. Glad to see your patience paid off.
It good to see the dually earning its keep too.

Got a slow start on it this morning and it's pretty hot here. Seat and gas tank are out. My trusty helper holding up her end of the seat.... I siphoned out the rest of the old gas and the fresh gas I put in, so I could remove it. Gas tank looks pretty crusty inside so I am on my way to take it in to the car wash to wash it out with soap and water here in a bit. I removed the cover from the seat to see what kind of condition it was in. I will need to patch a couple of small areas where the center seat belts bolt to the floor. .
