Depends on clearances above the distributor to replace it....
I usually leave the distributor installed but remove the cap and rotor...

That makes getting to the top two bolts easier most of the time.

Just remember to install the distributor before turning the crank...meaning dont install the convertor bolts until after the distributor is back in place.
