Cigarette lighter housing removal

Im in the process of tearing apart my dash for a fresh coat of paint. I can't seem to figure out how to remove the cig lighter housing. Also any tips on removing the ignition switch would be a great help too. Thanks

On the ign. sw. look through this posts:

On the lighter, disconnect the ground and hot wire from the back and from the back unscrew the outer housing from the front housing. On mine, I had to hold the outer ring really tight and had to struggle to loosen the back housing but it finally came loose.

Re: Cigarette lighter housing removal

the hosuing is in two parts that screw together - kinda like a light bulb and socket - with the dash sandwiched in the middle. Like 68 said, gotta hold one steady while twisting the other. I ususally stick pliers inside the lighter opening and spread them, then just unscrew the houing from behind the dash. It is a bit odd how they go together.

Oh goody. I pushed my lighter in and now won't release. Sounds like im in for some fun.. Though I'd be a good spot for a USB port.
