Re: Craigslist find...the Holy Grail of squares - NOT MINE

It’s been a few years of restoration and it’s almost done. It turned out about as original as I could keep it.
Thanks again Mr. Chevy !

Re: Craigslist find...the Holy Grail of squares - NOT MINE

Wow, that's a beauty! This thread is funny to read. People all caught up in their own ideas of what's rare, the holy grail, uncommon, and what they would (or wouldn't) want. All mixed up together. That said, a great thread based on its outcome. The real purpose is making people aware to connect a member with a good truck. And that's exactly what happened! Would you be willing to disclose what you actually paid for it at that time? Also, it sounds like you have done a lot since then, so maybe you can tell us what you've done to it.

What was more irritating to me was everyone dwelling on the 'holy grail' verbiage when Mr.Chevy4x4 stated it came from the copy & pasted ad.

@57NAPCO.... Nicely done.

Re: Craigslist find...the Holy Grail of squares - NOT MINE

LT, I’ll share more and give details a bit later.

I did pull the original 120,000 mile 350 out and had it professionally rebuilt. It was just puffing a bit of smoke (but ran great) on start up but I wanted it done right so it’s a numbers matching truck.

Thanks y’all for the compliments

…so, had the cab corners and rockers been replaced as a few posters suggested?

Great looking truck. I like that you kept it stock height with stock wheels.

Re: Craigslist find...the Holy Grail of squares - NOT MINE

The body guy was shocked, it has all original sheet metal, no rust and no bondo, no replacement sheet metal, ever. It had never even been painted before except for a few touch up areas. It is a true mileage truck, now around 120,000.

Turned out great. Love that you kept it stock (mostly). Reading through this thread now is pretty funny. What would your truck as you purchased it go for now? $13-15?

Found it! Wow, you did an amazing job with the truck! I'm glad you were able to get it and do it justice. I love the end result.

Hey, it's DJ. Fast forward to 2023 and this truck pulls double the price it was listed at now. Crazy how strong the market is for these. Im keeping my 86 c10 and 82 2wd K5 for a while. Squarebody's are just great trucks that will keep getting more popular. I actually know where a 292 sm465 77 stepside 1 ton is, but man it is really beat, but a friend might get it anyway.

Re: Craigslist find...the Holy Grail of squares - NOT MINE

after all the arguing in this post a few years ago on the asking price nowadays that truck will easily bring 3x-4x what it was originally listed for in today's prices.

Nice! How many miles when sold? Beautiful truck. i don't think if i was lucky to have one like that I could of sold it. I bought a 87 Silverado fleet short 4x4 350 auto new , had what I think was most of the options I could order, oh the single days lol, no plow package this truck wasn't doing any plowing, that I remember telling the dealer lol. The one option I couldn't get was the big block it was a K10, i was told no, can order only in C or K 20 30 for the big blocks, I was bummed. Out the door back then $19,500.00 Sure miss that truck. Stolen ten months later. Just rambling now.

That would definitely be one of the most desirable squarebodies to have then and today. Totally bummed for you it got stolen, but I bet you still look back to when you had it and smile.

Total original miles on the truck, about 124,000. 3-4000 on the numbers matching rebuilt engine.

That seems like it would have been a tough one to let go of. It sure benefited from your ownership. I hope you got enough to cover the work you had done. Still curious if you nabbed it for the $7K you initially proposed. It turned out to be as nice as the OP thought. Did you replace it with something?
