I have them at the rental property on my detached garage that face the driveway and the street . Never had an issue with neighbors about them . People need to realize that there is no assumption of privacy in public spaces .

Now if the camera is zoomed in on the neighbors window that may be a problem

I haven't but that's probably because we both have cameras on our houses. Mine is a little further back on my detached garage but it covers both of our driveways and then the gate to my backyard.

the only people who do have issues with cameras are afraid of getting caught doing something they shouldnt be doing, unless of course youre aiming them directly at your neighbor for voyeur pruposes

Re: Any of you had and neighbor issues about you having

We have a neighbor who vandalized some of our cars and plants. One of those things where you know who did it, but nobody saw, so can't do anything about it. I put up security cameras and that all stopped. I aimed the cameras so that they top out at about mid-street. The neighbor directly across the street from me said I could include her house in the view, but I like my privacy and am giving them theirs.

""Idaho Law"" on security cameras aiming at house across from you .. Law says that it is legal to point a camera at your neighbors front property in plain view.. It is against the law to having a camera pointed into the neighbors back yard ,, that is against the privacy law

Chances are that your driveway or yard is the collateral background in a legitimate monitoring of your neighbor's property. Just as the home security camera laws in California says, “There are no restrictions, for a private person to have video surveillance cameras around their property for the purposes of security.” I'd personally aim them so that the neighbor's property was not surveilled, though. Don't have cameras in the back yard, yet.

That's simply not true. I don't do anything nefarious or illegal, but I don't want to be spied on either.

I have cameras on my home and garage, but they're aimed with a downward angle so they don't seem to be spying on neighbors.

Given how many Ring type doorbell cams are already watching entry ways and the streets and houses farther out, I wouldn't worry too much about putting one up. Wouldn't hurt to let those neighbors you are on good terms with know that you put up one or more cameras(keep some things secret).

Just make sure you secure the thing from the Internet at large. Way too many of the things can be viewed by anyone that knows your IP address. Remember, the 'S' in IOT (Internet Of Things), stands for Security. You don't want your security camera to wind up being used to spy on you so the bad guys know when you are gone and it is safe to rob the place.
