Roof and gutter cleaning

Leaned a ladder up and did some gutter cleaning yesterday. We do have gutter covers but stuff still builds up on top (not the expensive version covers). Today I went to hop up on the roof. Started to step up and decided no, this isnt something I want to do anymore. Ive never liked heights and even though our home is a single story rambler and not much of a pitch, Im just not sure enough of myself anymore to be climbing up there.

I talked to my wife about it and we were thinking maybe one of the nephews could earn some extra dough and do it for us. We decided no we didnt want to chance it. I could never live with myself if there was an accident. So Ive been online looking for well reviewed licensed and bonded folks. We'll see how it goes hoping for someone to get back to us lol. We've been trying for months to get a new gate built and its just not going well. 17 foot opening, ten foot of it a double gate. I think we've contacted 5 well reviewed fence and gate people. Lots of emails back and forth, one visit. Hopefully before winter sets in it will get done =)

I think it is pretty much the same everywhere. I needed my roof replaced from hail damage. Called 5 contractors a year and a half ago and two finally showed up last fall to give me an estimate. My roof was finally installed a month ago.

I talked to the contractor about replacing my siding and he said that he would give me a bid if the work could wait until next Summer....

Crazy stuff.

Re: Roof and gutter cleaning

We cleaned gutters twice a year for 30 years, and we no longer get on ladders.

This spring we had a local company install the fine mesh stainless screens on the house and the barn so fall and winter will be the real test as to how it performs.
I basically know the large stuff will no longer clog the system.
I'm just curious as to how well the wind, rain etc will keep everything clear at the roof/gutter edge.
That's where the 14 year old grandson comes into play if need be.

Re: Roof and gutter cleaning

Fortunately, my gutters are low enough that I can get to them after a couple steps up on a ladder. I need to go check and/or clean mine before the rains come again.

Re: Roof and gutter cleaning

We don't have much gutter leaf trouble but years ago I took a piece of electrical tubing and bolted on a fabbed hook so I can reach most of the gutters from the ground.

Re: Roof and gutter cleaning

My one story house gutters are 9 ft to 10 feet from the ground ,and I can use a 12 ladder to reach them, I do have a 5 ft safeway scaffolding , factory planks with casters and it stands right at 6 foot tall ,,so when standing on the top of it my head is above the gutter a couple feet .. and I can roll the scaffolding around all sides of my house.. if you can stand on a 5 foot by 7 foot platform approx 6 feet tall and if you can get the scaffolding around all the gutters ,, I bet renting them is cheaper that hiring it done ,, Just a thought
