I remember the day he died. My parents were working out in the yard.....mowing or trimming the hedges or something. Anyway, I had been helping and they sent me in for a jug of water from the fridge.

I saw the newsman, Walter Cronkite?, talking about it on TV when I walked through the living room to get the water. I went back outside and told my parents that Elvis had died.

I distinctly remember to this day.......my mother dropped the rake and ran into the house crying! Dad came in behind her and watched TV for a bit. They grew up on Elvis and had seen him several different times throughout his career in the 50's-70's.

My mama cried for several days.
