flat tow wiring question
I'm wanting to flat tow my 64 GMC. Will it hurt anything to splice into the wires at the firewall? All the kits I see are running new wires back. No, I'm not buying a kit. Was looking at them for reference
Thanks

Re: flat tow wiring question
I wouldn't recommend "splicing into" the wiring harness.. I suggest you buy a trailer wiring kit that includes the lights. Fasten the harness along the side of the truck and fasten (clamp, bolt, zip tie) the lights to the rear bumper.. Plug the tow harness into a trailer receptacle on the rear of the towing vehicle, just as you would if towing a trailer.
I'll add this as an after-thought. Disconnect the driveshaft from the differential or you'll wind up with a damaged transmission. |

Re: flat tow wiring question
And if you don't mind spending more, they also have wireless tow lights

Re: flat tow wiring question
I’d be worried about losing them. Like the idea though

Re: flat tow wiring question
There is a flat 3wire harness that exits the cab near the trans hump that runs the rear turn signals and running lights. You could pull the plug and connect your “trailer lights” to the rear from there.

Re: flat tow wiring question
When I rewired my Blazer I set it up for flat towing. I have a flat-4 connector that sits on my radiator support. I soldered it in where the wiring harness runs down the firewall to the rear.
