62 GMC 3/4 ton Disc brake conversion

I know this has been beat to death already. The info is a little more limited on the 3/4 ton. Has anybody managed to get late model spindles on the 3/4 ton? It looks like the lower arm ball joint configuration is the issue as the upper looks like you can bolt in the later upper ball joint to mount the disc brake spindle. I would rather retain the torsion bars if possible. But otherwise is everyone thinking the 73 and up crossmember is better? What is different from a 71-72 cross member VS a 73 and up?

Thanks!

most guys are doing the entire squarebody engine cradle swap on the 60-62 pickups bud. you have to waller out a couple of the holes to get it ligned in but best and easiest way to do this.

Re: 62 GMC 3/4 ton Disc brake conversion

The most cost effective way to upgrade to disc brakes will be to swap the entire front suspension to a '71-'87 C20 front suspension. That will of course eliminate the torsion bars. The only other option is aftermarket spindles. I am assuming there are some for the '60-'62 C20's as there are for the C10's?

Re: 62 GMC 3/4 ton Disc brake conversion

On my 62 one ton I was going to swap in an 84 c30 front to get disc brakes. I don't think they make hardly anything for the 8 lug setup at least for the one ton model. The joy of having a 3 year only front end. Then you want to change out to a new dual master cylinder and if it's a stick now a master cylinder for the clutch. It was just starting to snowball so I didn't change anything.
