Help with opening rear tailgate? 1962 Carryall

I'm assuming that if I crawl through the truck and take the screws off the panel inside I can manipulate the latch from inside?

Does it take the same type of lock cylinder as the front doors?

As I type this and think of it, I'm not sure if the tailgate is actually locked or not.
I push the button on the rear tailgate and nothing feels like it is engaging or disengaging. If the tailgate works similarly to how the driver and passenger doors open, the fact that I can push the button in at all means that its unlocked?

I would love some pictures of the interior of the panel shown here (vehicle not mine, pic taken from H.A.M.B.):

A huge help, I believe. Based on the shape of the cylinder and the action of the lever, its gotta be something very similar to the doors.
