Rub, Rub, Buff, Buff
I've been trying to shine the grill shell on my 69 C10 P/U.
I've used a number of different aluminum polishes, including Blue Magic. The BM does a decent job but the milky look comes back after a few minutes. Someone told me that its the anodizing on the aluminum that is causing the milky look. Tried some Easy Off oven cleaner on it but that didn't seem to budge this stuff. Anybody got any recommendations on how to get the aluminum clean, so it can be polished up? Jim Mt Juliet

Those parts are anodized and you must remove the coating. I used Red Devil drain cleaner...very nasty stuff...LYE(strong alkaline)! I then had to buff with my jewelers wheel and it came out looking like chrome! Problem is that this process is so labor intensive that I just gave up. It seemed to me to be way too much work for a POS truck! If I were working on an Buggatti Royale it would be totally different!

I used Mother's on my grill on the 71 and it seemed to work well, but it was all by hand. I think that if I get serious and get some buffing wheels, it'll really come out good. Jeff.

I just did my 69 grill last weekend,I used the easy off oven cleaner let it sit for about 30 min.Then I used a scotch brite pad with rubber gloves to take off I did this step twice,Then I took 400 grit and sanded,then I stepped up to 800 grit and then on to 1500 grit.After all this I used Mothers and polished it looks pretty good now .
