So long to summer tour

I just got home from vacation. I haven’t been to Colorado in a couple of years so, it was overdue.
I found a place up in the Wet Mountains near Lake Isabel where
I spent 3 days at 9200 feet elevation. I didn’t adjust to that very well.
While there I visited Bishop Castle.
I did go down to Colorado City and ran a couple of loops around Beckwith Reservoir. Pretty nice little lake.
Then I went down to Pueblo and visited Weisbrod Aircraft Museum.
Very cool place.
Next stop, Garden of the Gods. Been there multiple times in the last 50 some years.
Then on to Castle Rock. I spent a couple days there. They have a nice walking/bike/running trail there. I think eventually it will go north and connect to Denver.
Yesterday I ventured up to Parker to run the So Long to Summer 5k.
I ran it back in 2021.
Yesterday I won my age division (60-69) and placed seventh over all.
I really didn’t acclimate to the elevation but, had a blast none the less.

I saw lots of cool Chevy trucks and a couple of cool ford trucks on the way out.
Not so much on the way home. It rain most of my time on the road today.
Although I did see this on the way home. Somewhere near Manhattan Kansas if I remember right.
More pictures to come later.

Now you will get to "rest up from vacation"...

Glad to see you had a good time though. The wife and I need to get away for a while. Colorado sounds pretty good.

Leon, as you probably know there are lots of great sights to see in Colorado.
My trip didn’t even scratch the surface.

Re: So long to summer tour

.

Wow great trip...thanks for the pics.

I used to travel to CO ski resorts every season and found my tolerance to the altitude pretty good when young. I had one really bad trip in terms of the altitude and how it affected my body. It was like having a bad hangover with body and head aches.

Sounds like your issues were more minor as you ran to victory in the 5k...impressive.

Re: So long to summer tour

Nice bunch of pics! You take pics way better than I do, that's for sure. BTW, those "bread bag ties" are actually nylon lacing tape. First time I got a look inside a spacecraft, I was amazed to see all the harnesses restrained to the brackets with that stuff. For half a billion dollars, I would have expected something else. But it's lightweight and does the job. It only has to hold things in place during launch and assent. After that there is pretty much no strain on it in the microgravity of orbit.

When I was a kid we lived in Castle Rock,Elizabeth and various places in Denver.
My brothers and I used to run up the rock and all around Rock Park.
It was definitely easier then.
When I visit it brings the kid out in me.

If my photos come out nice it’s because of the phone and not the operator.
I knew the “bread ties” weren’t your average ties but, I thought it was interesting.
I knew someone here that is way smarter than me would know the details about the this sort of thing.

I’m sure Ironhorse knows a lot about aircraft as well.

Thanks to all the others who replied. I had a feeling some would enjoy the pictures.

Re: So long to summer tour

There is a hidden gem in Colorado City called Lake Beckwith.
I saw some wildlife “right in broad daylight”.
I didn’t bring my fishing pole this trip but, it’s a nice place to go for a walk or run.

Re: So long to summer tour

^ Not so much smart, just different experiences. As for wildlife, I was running a Gun Range Officer training course in the Santa Monica mountains many years ago, and had to call a "cease fire" while some mule deer wandered through the range. A lot of people use that range, and I guess the deer are just used to the gunfire.
