68 wiper motor gasket/seal

Had some rust damage on wiper motor hole in cowl. Ordered a replacement gasket from GMC Paul's. The hole on this gasket it quite a bit smaller than the original one. Are these made to cut? Am I missing something?

I got one of those from GMCPauls and it fit just fine without any cutting.

Does the lip that is on the hole in cowl press into the gasket?

I don't know. I just bolted it up. It hasn't leaked.

Here is a pic of a piece of the old gasket lying on top of the new one. And another pic of the piece of old gasket in its original position on the wiper motor.

Re: 68 wiper motor gasket/seal

Here is a shot up under the dash, the non rusted part has a flange. All of the gasket was rotted out when we pulled the wiper motor. Ordered the gasket and built a piece to epoxy based on the pattern of the old gasket. This new one does not match the outline on the wiper motor from the old gasket in the previous pic. The gasket will fit the wiper motor, but not around this hole in the wiper motor mount.

Will the new gasket fit around the rubber seal on your motor?

Re: 68 wiper motor gasket/seal

The little lip on the cab mounting surface will likely just pierce into the seal, which may actually enhance the tightness of the sealing.

Re: 68 wiper motor gasket/seal

That's what I was wondering. Used a compass and built a piece based off of the old gasket. Made it out of epoxy with the lip. It is strong but not sharp enough to pierce the gasket. Might just grind it flat and work from there.
