How to change color of vinyl floor mat?

I noticed that Brothers Trucks sells a black vinyl floor mat for 1967-1972 Chevy C10. My 1968 C10 shortbed had a factory red vinyl floor mat.

Any good ideas on how to change the color of that black floor mat to red?

Re: How to change color of vinyl floor mat?

You probably could use vinyl dye, but wow that would be a lot of work. For vinyl dye to be successful, there’s a lot prep involved. And what I mean, is that the parts need scrubbed/throughly clean. And you may think that since the parts are new there’s not much to clean. But being new vinyl, they would need scrubbed so well it takes that “slick coating” off. It’s the same with plastic parts. The surface has to be able “to accept” the dye. This is why so many people complain about dye not sticking, that it peels off in a short amount of time. And it will if it’s not prepped correctly. SEM has good products for the prep, Vinyl Prep & Plastic Prep, and then the Adhesive Promoter before you can even lay down the color. This another reason why dyeing parts is not successful for a lot of people. They don’t want to spend all the extra money on the prep materials, and just want to get a can of dye and start spraying.

I bought a new repo mat, and let it sit outside in the sun and rain for about a month. Then I cleaned it really good. I used SEM brand paint and prep. Turned out excellent. It’s the prefect detail
