Re: 67 Camaro Build
6x9s are mounted under the rear package tray with some slight modifications to these spacers that came with the speakers. Minimal modification to the car itself so we don’t create any rattles with the installation (like cutting big ol’ speaker holes in the tray).

Re: 67 Camaro Build
slick speaker mounting. Still have the space for a factory rear window defogger if the car had it originally as well. What are you going to do the cardboard package tray on top to let the sound come through clean?

Re: 67 Camaro Build
Thanks, no rear window defogger. But yes, kind of, it’s a REM brand fiberboard style from Heartbeat City Camaro (link). I’ll post a pic of the backside next time I post and you can see the speaker openings.
https://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/...visions-Black/ I punched the hole for the backup light intermediate wiring harness. Also, fit the package tray cover (thinking it'll look pretty good), as well as the trunk divider around the mini-tubs. That black plastic thingy mounted in the trunk is what the bazooka sub mounts to you’ll see it in upcoming posts.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
I did the same with my '66 Chevelle rear tray. Mine has a lot more embossing around the speaker locations and a few hours of blending the spacers to them. I have a similar cover with the mesh that has perforations for the sound to come thru.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
I do like these covers, imo it looks cleaner with the speakers hidden.
A little 3M 90 Contact Adhesive sprayed on both sides finished up the package tray area.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
You're braver than me, gluing the cover on over the speaker fasteners. I plan on using double sided tape, in case I need to access the screws again. Probably not much different for removal, but that 3M adhesive doesn't let go, when applied correctly.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
Package tray looks sharp! Might have to something similar in our 61 impala just because its a odd color, so will have to wrap it.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
What color is the interior ? Ciadella seems to have all the colors covered. I don't see premade package trays, but they sell the material to recover yours.

But seriously (Knock on wood), I don’t expect to be back messing with the speaker fasteners anytime soon. I’m fairly certain they won’t come loose with the nyloc nuts that I used. Some folks may not know the tray cover is only glued along the front edge to keep it tucked nicely behind the seat back. Removal shouldn’t be bad as you won’t save the cover, cut along the front edge and slide the tray cover out. Clean the area as best as you can and repeat with a new cover, easy peasy. Quote:
The Bazooka sub is mounted and starting to wire the rear speakers. Made up some templates, part of the process to hopefully not f’up mounting the kick panel speakers. Need to land the speaker magnets just right to clear the lower a-pillar inner structure.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
Dark Turquoise, and yeah they make a vinyl covered one. The current one in the car is the original colored cardboard and showing some age.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
Those old Impala interiors are sure wild. Loved the Aqua in our 66 that we restored for Mrs. 7dee2. The last pic was one of the few times we put 3 vehicles in one show.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
I like the Caprice tail lights on the Impala. They are a subtle, and classy upgrade.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
Thanks, it was the same year as our Impala, 1966. Here’s an earlier post on our Vette and our 68 GMC (The GMC post is part of my new C10 Build thread).
Quote:
Man-o-man it would be nice if they made it the same as the original when a part is reproduced. I know, wishful thinking but hey just a little venting. Both sides on the top & bottom of the repro taillight bezels have some casting stand-offs, these are not on the original bezels. It seems to affect these bigger original-type molded gaskets on the bottom side of the bezel. So, after a few surgical moments with a grinder, the problem is solved and the gaskets sit better.

Re: 67 Camaro Build
And that is why reproduction parts are know as Sorta-Fit..
Cut, shape, weld, grind, tweak, there, see ?? these repro parts fit great... If the originals aren't pitted badly, they are valuable as restorable cores. |

Re: 67 Camaro Build
That's the truth!
Flip, I think I finally got it! So, the gaskets could've used a trimming but I do have a blacked-out tail pan (which mostly hides the excess gasket material), so for now I’m giving it a done stamp and moving on.
