Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy PENNY

Finally, 8 months after starting on this little project, she moved under her own power again. I need have my carb rebuilt and do some final adjusting, install my ac brackets, and finish putting my dash together. But at least she’s back home!

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy PENNY

This truck is back under the knife. It’s been sitting in a buddies shop for about 2 years and I figured if it’s there I might as well tear into it. On the list this time:

Replace bad lifter that failed during break in from earlier engine work
Rebuild original quadrajet
Repaint engine. VSC rattle can orange is not the most durable
Repaint black on grille
Install decals on hub caps
Install new wood grain decal on side trim and tailgate band
Replace windshield
New gaskets for doors, door glass, window channels, and top
Color match raptor liner inside tub
Sound deadener throughout
New carpet
New rear vinyl panels
New seat backs
Powdercoat original seat tracks
Rebuild door guts
New door panels
Restore original seat belts
Get a factory speaker to get the original am/fm playing
Misc odds and ends to clean up the inside and out

Ultimately I realized that this girl needs some love and I can make it way better without diving into a full restoration. I don’t want shiny paint but I do want a comfortable and reliable driver.

First up was the wood grain trim tape. Because who doesn’t start with the most visually satisfying part first right?

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy PENNY

I didn’t get any pics but replaced the bad lifter, installed the freshened up carb just to discover that it was time to buy a new gas tank and battery.

Then I pulled the windshield to find this beauty waiting for me. Patched and fixed now

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy PENNY

Next up I plan on finishing the sound deadener and installing the carpet. Also hoping to get the windshield installed next shop night and wrapping up the interior less seats. More to come, stay tuned!
