I believe I posted about this before but they have gone up even more. Not sure how you get kids in to the model building hobby at these prices. We had an hour to burn yesterday so we stopped in to Hobby Lobby. They have a ton of stuff on sale at 50% off including Christmas items (till 11/9 if you’re interested)
Unfortunately models weren’t included. The 57 was a snap together, those used to be the cheapest.

I just buy my son hot wheels at this point and an occasional diecast at a car show since you can get them for under $10 in some cases.

My lands, those are outrageous. $40 for a snap together 1/25 scale? They don't do anything more than they originally did.
I would expect to pay up for an old model no longer in production but there is a limit to everything ya know?
When I was a kid models were sold in most all drug stores and the like (before big box stores or actual toy stores) and the GOOD 1/25 scale models like AMT 3 n 1 kits were $1.50 - $2.00 .
At these prices the smarter buy would be a diecast, already painted and assembled model that would hold up better than plastic ones but it takes away the build aspect of it.

Funny you bring this up, last week I somehow ended up looking at model kits and having the exact same reaction with the prices. Kids today getting screwed out of hobbies from every direction. Theres no way no how I would have built any models at those kinds of prices.

I was buying Johan models in the '80's at the local hobby shop for $5. Adjusted for inflation that is around $14. There is no way they are to be priced like that other than greed, especially since they are molded in Chyna, and most are old re-issues, so no big overhead in making a new release.

Duckwalls, Woolworths and Ben Franklins all sold them for $1.25 when I was young. I learned alot about cars by building and customizing models back in the day. Model Car Science was one of my favorite magazines back then too.

Right, I seem to remember $1.50 for a model car, back in the '60s. That was a lot of bottles collected at the roadside, as I had no other source of income until I could push a lawnmower, and most of that went for food for the family, which my dad didn't know about.
