1980 K20 Tailgate Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Just picked up a low mileage, high option rust free 1980 K20. Bought from second owner who swears truck was never in accident or had anything replaced as far as body goes. In my research, it has the rare square headlights for ‘80 as it sounds they came with both square and round. My question is the tailgate. Everything I’m seeing is this is 81+ with that type of insert. Not heard of anyone reporting an ‘80 came with this style. Looks to original to me! Any ideas?

The stainless band is correct. It also has the 81 and later adhesive chrome trim and corners which is incorrect. That's probably what's throwing you.

Square headlamps (not sure they are rare) are added by opting up to RPO V22, which is the chrome grille option. V22 could be added to Scottsdale and was included with Silverado.

That truck is correct.

73-80 Tailgate Band

81-87 Tailgate Band

That truck also has the correct style trim. It looks different because the black paint is missing from the center.
