I need to ship an engine and trans from Michigan to San Diego. The place I'm buying the engine from quoted $500 to ship it. Is that about right or can it be done cheaper?

It can be done cheaper. I had a 700R4 tranny shipped Denver to Sacramento for $100. Will try to find my freight papers tomarrow. Had to go freight dock to freight dock though. They kill you on the residential delivery.

That's too much. I've paid low end of 60 and high end of 200 to ship an engine. Try someone else.

I'm buying a 2004 LQ4/4L80E combo w/ 10 miles on it and none of the yards around here have what I'm looking for. I'll mention Forward Air to the yard and see what they say. Keep the ideas coming though.

I found out who it was I used. It was Team Worldwide. Los Angeles area contact 310-412-7350. Pretty sure they service your area through contract.

As mentioned earlier, it will be considerably cheaper to pick it up at the freight company dock. For home delivery, they add on a charge for a liftgate trailer. Usually, the freight companies are willing to negotiate to get your business. I manage a large warehouse and have seen freight charges rise due to fuel surcharges. Remember, interstate trucking is an unregulated business. So many interstate trucking companys have gone under in the past few years. Try ABF or Yellow freight. ABF might be more willing to negotiate prices. I have had better luck using the phone than trying to get a quote online.....Good Luck To You
