How Do The Turn Signals Work??????

Howdy all,

'82 K30 W/ 454, Flatbed with duals.

OK. I'm trying to wire up new trailer wiring jacks, but I'm stumped!

Followed the buggered up harness back to what I believe is the stock harness, which has a 4-way plug. 4 wide spade leads, 2 vertical and 2 horizontal.

To make a long story (and 2 hours work) short, how do I wire into the the turn signals?

If I touch the tester to one vert lead with 1 turn signal on, I have to touch one horiz. term to the vert. term to even make the signal flash. one vert term glows brightly when grounded (no flash) and the other vert term glows dull.

I'm used to the Yellow-green-white-red type wiring. Am I passing the dumbsh1t test or what?

Thanks!

Scott

Your signals are not flashing because withthe rear disconnected there is not enuf current through the flasher to cause it to flash. The colors are as follows for a stock harnes.
Yellow - Left turn
Green - Right turn
Brown - Tail lamps (running lights)
grounds are through the chassis.

Yep. Most trailer hitch places have a plug and play adaptor for about $12 that lets you hook up without having to cut the factory wires.

I'd get a solid state/heavy duty flasher while you're at it, they aren't dependent on current flow. A normal flasher will flash too fast with a trailer connected for the same reason Necromancer speaks of...current flow (more lights, more current, less lights less current) The HD flashers tend to 'click' louder than the normal ones too.
I use the adapter that Grim Reaper speaks of on my '87. I pop it in when I need it, otherwise it lives in the glove box. (Stays nice and clean that way!)

That's my 2 cents.
