83' gmc E.s.c identification

When i travel to look at an 83'gmc sierra 305 ci. What is a sure fire way to tell if it has the troublesome E.S.C. I know that some of the trucks had an ever so proud emblem on the tailgate, However this truck in good original condition and does not. Thanks To all who reply. Matt

Don't worry. If it's a 305, it has the ESC distributor. They all had them. Of course if it's 1/2 ton, all of them were 305's up until 87. I do believe some Cali trucks did come with 350's though.

my 83 GMC with a 305 had 80k or so original miles on it and the whole truck was original and didn't have an ESC dizzy on it. I guess its possible somebody replaced it, but the guy who owned the truck did not care about performance or anything like that at all and didn't hardly even check his own fluids (why the engine and tranny were shot at 80k, althought I drove the motor for a year after I owned it) The only possible explanation I can come up with was that he took it to somebody to have work done and the dizzy was replaced but they didn't put an ESC dizzy in it.
