Hate to start a political thread out of this but don't blame it all on the unions. If not for the union labor movement YEARS ago the forty hour work week norm would not exist. Neither would paid vacation, sickleave, medical coverage, retirement, ad infanitum. And let us not forget safety regulations covering workers. The real culprit here is the fact that our standard of living in this country is or HAS been higher than many of the over seas countries that we export to. American labor can not compete with over seas labor when you factor in requirements from OSHA, EPA, Government requirements plus the cost of wages, retirement, medical/dental plus the over inflated CEO salaries, bonuses and stock options. This problem has been building for years and has reared it's ugly head in all facets of American manufacturing.

American labor can compete with any overseas labor when it comes to quality, production, and invention. When you can no longer buy an American made product give some thought to the fact that this country invented the Video Tape Recorder, try and buy one made in the USA !

Pardon the rant here but don't put all the fault on the "unions"

I was speaking hypothetically, and just using it as an example...

I for one would be willing to pay a little extra for parts say MADE IN THE USA.To keep folks here in the USA with jobs and to get better quality products,Maybe there should be a Nationwide Boycott of USA based company that have their products manufactured abroad.Bring Quality and Jobs back to US soil.

Well said Ironhorse, our plant is layin'off 350 workers by Jan. I go in Dec. Now if we didn't have a union I wouldn't be in the top 100 on the recall list. But in the papers after the layoffs start letter after letter will be sayin' its the unions fault. But thats the American way people can voice their opinion even when they are wrong!!

It's going crazy these days.. My dad is Operations Manager for a company(will remain nameless, just incase we have top dogs here)... And they are moving plants overseas, thankfully not my dads but... Just think of all the people without jobs, unable to support families... It's all about the benjamin's tho.... what a shame...
