Wink need facts on 700r4

I have a 700r4 out of an 87 suburban Ithink that is the first year they fixed all thier problems. will it stand up to a 454 without a few mods. or can it be converted to fit in a 4x4

Yes, a 700 can be built to hold up to all but a radical 454. A stock trans will be taxed if you run the truck hard. Any good aftermarket builder will know how to fortify the 700 to withstand the torque.

Yes again, a 700 can be converted to 4x4.

I also have a few 700r4 questions. How much do you think it would take to get a 700r4 to keep up with 600 pounds of torque. Or would I be better off with a th400. with a big block gas mileage is a non-issue anyway.

As Tx Firefighter pointed out yes it can be converted to fit in a 4x4. You need the output shaft from Advance Adapters and the rest of the stuff (adapter and NP205) from an original th350/NP205 setup.

I believe AA has other output shafts that work with other original setups but the "from th350 to 700r4" one is the cheapest way to go.
