Header questions

I've got a set of hooker comps that were supposed to be from a 72 Cheyenne. I planned on using them in the burb but when I did put them in this morning there seemed to be very little clearance between the header and the lower right control arm grease fitting.

Anybody have any suggestions for headers for a 3/4ton burb, that they know fit?

Ron

I think you will have that issue, with many headers. i run a set of Hooker comps on my longhorn(#2452 painted). my sb is mounted in I 6 position, giving 3 1/2" of setback....& no issues with the lower arms! Depending on how close you are, you might opt for a 90 degree fitting on the grease fitting.....if you have 1/4 " clearance, it will never hit, as the grease fitting doesnt move up/down(just rotates, as the a arm moves up/down). one other thought , is the eng mounts could be "beaned out" (sagging). best of luck, crazyL

When I had a small block in my 72 C/20 I had a set of Flowtech headers and had no clearance problems...

I had Hooker comps on my orange 69 and had to use a 90 degree grease zerk on the lower rear bushings.

Close, but never any problems.

Just an update, I picked up a set of flowtech ceramic coated headers and put them on tonight. I was surprised how good they look and there's plenty of frame clearance, I may have to move a few brake lines but apart from the passenger motor tower being a little close everything looks great.

I had to bend some brake lines with my flotechs. I'm glad I inspected real good after the install. They were in contact with the line. That couldn't be good. I've since wrapped em (no ceramic) and heat on the brake lines should no longer be an issue.

chickenwing, onless that is a compitition only vehicle, you'll want to remove the header wrap. That stuff will cut the life of the headers to just a year or two on a daily driver.

Believe it or not, I'm ok with that. They were $100. Hopefully when they rot out I'll have the $300 for the ceramic shorties I really want.

Thanks, those are actually chrome pans, covers, etc that I powder coated with a translucent blue, I'm really happy with them, they turned out pretty well.

No haven't started her yet, got to get the shop ready for the winter and put the wood stove in it, so that's probably all thats going get done this weekend. Also will probably be building a leanto on the back of the shop next weekend, so not much more happening for a while.
