Still not sure I would try that myself but its one of those things you don't know until you try.

Before my Father in law passed away he wanted a built in desk and bookshelves on a 10' wall in his study. He asked if I could build it for him. I told him I had never built anything that big and he was a very picky man when it came to things looking right and done right. I gave it shot and low and behold it came out pretty good and I saved him about $6,000. He only spent $1,000. So you never know until you try.

Look forward to the rest of your build.
By the way, cool story on the built-in for your father- in-law. U r right. Just cause you never done something does not mean you can't, just that you haven't done it yet.
I figure all this stuff is "just steel".

Re: Meet Homer (the motor home)

What do you guys think about this seat?

My co-worker was stripping a late model Lincoln LS and had this back seat up for grabs for free. Not sure yet weather or not I will be able to use it but it's kinda got some nice lines. I will have to get some seat glides, and build a frame for it if I use it, but I really dig that fold away/down arm rest with cup holders.
We'll see if it stays, but gotta try.

Thanks flashed. I appreciate it.

I am starting to believe we are a small but twisted bunch who dig old Homer. Been in so long now, gotta see where he ends up.

Re: Meet Homer (the motor home)

I would love to build one in the future. But my twist would either be slight altitude adjustment and super singles ( i have always wanted to build a 40s 1 1/2 ton like that ) or go 4x4 with slight lift

I do know what you mean. I am also not sure if Homer will not get a little bit of altitude adjustment before it's all done and over with. We'll see.
For now, just trying to keep moving forward one bite at a time.

Re: Meet Homer (the motor home)

Thanks Pat.

Got the bed mounted yesterday, you would not have thought it was that hard to do, but when there is nothing there it takes time.
I had to lift the bed (my camper jacks) off about 5 times pull the truck forward, work, push back underneath bed, try again. Over, Over, you get the picture.

Yep. Finally. Now on to mounting a bumper. Also wanting to get side glass in place.
How's your dually project going? You gonna do a build thread?

Re: Meet Homer (the motor home)

Picked up a fleetside bumper yesterday to start my journey towards building/having a rear bumper. I figure "you gotta start somewhere". I am gonna look at it for a bit before I decide whether or not to remove a sliver (about 4 to 5 inches) off either side and then put the end cap back on.

What do you guys think?

Two more weeks then time to Rock and Roll on that dually. I saw the bed floor you scored in an ad you are running for the bed sides. Looks solid.

Re: Meet Homer (the motor home)

Looks fine as is and it gives you a place to mount rear facing spot for hooking trailers etc..

Yeah, I hear you Chris. I will definitely have to think on it for a while. Surprised it looks even half way close. It's off a fleetside. Figured for $20 I would whittle away at it. Sometimes I have to have something to measure against and then I will know what I want by looking at what I want to go away.

Re: Meet Homer (the motor home)

Nice build, I'm liking it.
About the bumper, the width looks good in the pics, ties in the widening of the bed to the point that people might look at it and know something is different, but hmmm?
What I saw was to fill in the empty areas between the bed and the bumper, adding the diamond plate to the bumper and following the fender profiles.
I like that the bumper would give some protection to the wide fenders if you were backing up and had a blindspot oops.

Re: Meet Homer (the motor home)

Do you think this is too much rake?

Wanted to see what all the fuss is about with these trucks being dropped in the weeds so that's what I did. Literally dropped Homer right in the dirt.

Seriously though, needed to work on wiring, headers, tranny lines and all that stuff up front and Homer sits so dang high in the air, so I took off the front tires and gave him a little altitude adjustment so I can reach all the stuff without climbing on a ladder/crate.

Re: Meet Homer (the motor home)

That's certainly one way to get easier access. Makes getting under it a bit of a challenge I'd imagine.

Yeah he's back up in the air now. Still got work to do under the hood, but need to be able to push it back, pull it forward when needed.

Pulled the exhaust manifolds off this weekend and got some Hooker headers installed. Sounds like such an easy thing to do doesn't it? Took hours and a couple trips to the parts store. Bought header bolts, too short. Took em back, longer ones. Would not go into 3 of the bolt holes, hit the tubes. Little drill work on the flange and finally got em in and bolted up.

Changed out the master cylinder and brake booster last night. For a change, it went smooth. Sure was nice the push rod attached outside of the firewall with easy access.
