Re: 49 ls1
Yup, second bottle is key. I don't lease. I like to own my bottles. That way I can fill them wherever it's convenient. I'll try CL and see what I can find.

I own my bottles too... It only hurts the first time that way. I have a 336 cu ft. on my MIG and on my TIG. Just re-filled the 100% argon around new years for $95, and I won't have to worry about that again for quite some time unless I forget to shut the valve!

Re: 49 ls1
yup... Got some stuff done today, decided to knock off early for some down time. Got the rest of the seam welding done today, finished the gas tank and compressor install, and cleaned up the back of the frame. Tomorrow, I'll unbolt the bags, and drop the rear axle way down so I can weld my fish plates, and integrate the front of the C-notches fully into the frame. My lower links contact the original frame at full stuff, so I am planning to re-radius it tomorrow so they clear.

Re: 49 ls1
looks like it was meant to be. I'll be trial fitting my 52' car tank in my frame this weekend. Side exit fill tube. But new tanks are 200 compared to these stangs that are less than half the price. Dunno maybe I could deal with the bed fill, be less work I'm sure too.

Re: 49 ls1
The back end is all finished up, and ready to hook up air lines, if only they'd get here. I called the company, and apparently there was some mix up on the phone when I gave them my cc info. Should have lines and fittings by Monday, expedited shipping for my trouble. Here's some pics.

Re: 49 ls1
I had to take a weekend off, the folks came to visit and I wanted to work on his driver for a little bit. I finally got some time to work on it this afternoon, so I did the passenger side cab corner.

Re: 49 ls1
here's the finished corner. Looks like I have another s10 frame project coming in this weekend, so it may be a few weeks before I get back to this one.

Nice job, did you hand dolly the smaller cab corner piece?

Re: 49 ls1
Thanks Iceburgh. I have another LS in the corner that's going to get carb'd with MSD's 6LS controller.
No hand dolly, just welded a bead rolled strip on the edge. Not that skilled me-thinks...

Thanks. Deep into this other S10 frame swap right now. As soon as I get some time, I'll start a thread for it.

Awesome work so far.
[QUOTE=skymangs;6475272]I have another LS in the corner that's going to get carb'd with MSD's 6LS controller. QUOTE] I have access to a LS motor, I was thinking about carbing it and throwing it into the '79. Is there a reason you are going carb'd v.s. keeping it fuel injected?

Blue Bomber... No reason, just to try it. I'm thinking about squeezing that one in my 53 Packard Clipper Custom 2dr sedan. I like the idea of a modern driveline with an old school flavor. Plus I'll remote those coil packs behind the dash, so it will look pretty clean.

Re: 49 ls1
So I finally got some time to wrench on my 49 today!
First up, I picked up a '54 box. I really like the flat tops, so was was specifically looking for a 54 or early 55. Picked this one up complete with tailgate for $200. After getting the remnants of the bedwood, bedstrips, and 200lbs of mud and trees out of it, I mocked it up on the 49. Turned out to be absolutely rust free, and very straight, save a little damage to the drivers rear top rail. Can't believe I got this thing for $200! I also scored a Fulton visor for $50... More on that later.

Re: 49 ls1
spent some time today getting the brackets for my Gen II compac ac unit built. I am trying to finish up everything behind the dash before I weld it in.
I also made an 1/8th inch panel with welded studs for the cowl vent lever. That way the bolts won't show on the firewall anymore.

Re: 49 ls1
And I finished up the firewall recession. Those corner pieces were a PITA! got them done and welded in finally though.

Re: 49 ls1
I also welded up a set of control arms for my buddy Chris's 31 Sedan project. These are the same design as my truck.
Tomorrow I pick up the 64 Impala SS, I'll post that work in the "Alternate tinkerings" page.
