Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

Did some work on the cab. Since we moved the engine back and up to gain some clearance and not hang below the frame, we set the cab on the frame and cut out the trans hump to clear the 4L60e. We are going to make a custom trans tunnel once we get the seats and all figured out.

I worked last night for a few hours cleaning up and covering the wires in the harnes. I mounted the PCM and a relay/use block to a piece of aluminum that will be mounted in the cab under the dash. I still have about an hour of taping and misc clean up on the harness, but it is done for the most part till we get the rest of the wiring for the truck. The wires with the blue and green tape are things like Tow Haul mode switch, Vehicle speed output, Tack out put, etc...The red wire coiled up are the power inputs for the relays and fuses.

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

I ordered Prothane cab/body mounts last week. We should have them today and will mount the cab and core support to finalize the wiring and transmission tunnel. We are going to do something different to the floor since we have some rust repair to do on the cab.

The pictures above are from my new iPhone. How do they look to you guys? Are they good enough or should I go back to my digital camera?

Maybe by the end of the weekend we will have the motor mounts complete and then onto the fuel system to hopefully fire this motor up before school starts again in about a month...

The pictures look fine to me, have you considered using a 4WD hump instead and just fill in the opening?

we are going to have to chop up the floor anyway for the seats i have, and to clear the driveshaft, so its not too much work to do it ourselves

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

yeah pretty much, didnt think we were going to have to, then we tried putting the seats in, MY head hit the roof, then we put the tranny under it, then we noticed that the driveshaft has no room, so the original plan was never to rebuild the entire cab floor, but when u add everything we are going to have to do up, it's basically rebuilding it...

sectioning the seat brackets could possibly help that, and you can practice fabricating

the only problem is they are power seats, it would help a ton, but i would like to try and maintain the power adjustability, plus we have to replace most of the inner rockers anyway so we may aswell go ahead and flatten the floor.

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

Hey guys its korbin, im too lazy to get on my profile because im on my dads phone. Mocked up the ride height today, rear tire is a 275/45/20 on an 8.5" wide rim, and the fronts are 245/45/20 on an 8.5" rim, the rear tire is a little smaller than the 295/45/20 tire I want to run so keep that in mind, and the rear rim I want to run is 10" wide with 5.5" of back spacing, it measures 27 1/4" to the fender in the rear and 27 5/8" to the fender in the front, perfect I think, and I have roughly 6" of ground clearance at the LCAs

Also, my grandpa bought me the kbs gloss black frame coating kit, and we ordered the rack and pinion too, so motor mounts will be made as soon as that's mounted up

They don't make an American eagle alloys 225 rim in 20x10" in 5x5 and 5" BS, but I definitely would

you have no idea!

we ordered the rack and pinion from borthers about a month ago and still no show, we really need that to make the motor mounts to make sure it will clear eachother. wanted to fire it before school but that starts next monday so unless we get the rack before friday, and we work all day saturday and sunday, i really doubt it will happen. but if it does, fingers crossed, i will for sure get a video of it!

still got it. i think my dad has plans for it to be a shop truck. i want to bag and body drop it but i doubt that will happen. my brother turns 12 the month after i turn 16 so i think he also may end up with the white one, but he wants a 67-72 bodystyle. so i know we wanna keep it, but i have absolutely no idea what will happen to it..

scored today! found a 12 bolt with an eaton posi on craigslist with richmond 4.10s! already has spring perches and 5x5 axles for a square too! pretty much stole it from the guy. will remove the carrier and clean everything, and add new bearings.

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

The rearend seems to be in good shape. We will pull it apart and clean it. I will be changing the barckets to make sure that they are put in the correct location and set the pinion angle correctly for Korbin's truck. Look like the housing came out of a 71-72 pick up since you can see where brackets were cut off and the center section has the boss for the panhard bar mount.

Great score at $150. We are still waiting on some rust repair parts for the cab and the rack has not even shipped yet. Looks like I might call No Limit this week and see what we can work out since Bother's is not coming thru with the rack after it being on order for 4 weeks.

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

Just read this entire thread.

Very nice to see a father and son build. Never got the chance as a kid (dad was never a gear head). Now I have roughly 10 or so years before my lil guy can help in the garage. Will be interesting to see if he wants a 2 wheel you or 4 wheel. Either way can't wait to start building something with him.

Keep up the good work. Subscribing for updates.

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

last night Korbin was helping a friend install headers on his '07, so I went to the shop and worked on rust repair. The passenger side inner rocker was toast along with the foot well area. The outer rocker only had some mild rust on the inside. I cleaned everything after getting the inner rocker off and coated the inside of the outer rocker with Eastwood's rust encapsulator. I also was able to make a patch for the footwell and coated the inside of that part with the encapsulator too. Today after I get off work, I will be putting the new inner rocker and repaired footwell back in and re-attaching the cab mount. Once I am done with that, I will start putting the floor in on the passager side. Then I get to do it all again on the driver side....
