Tell U what I had thought about doin.....since the inner flanges of these hoods vary alot....I think I'm goin to do a slight trimming of that inner flange on hood edge..I've got clearance when closed but worried about movement goin down the road....think trimming will be the answer......jim

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

U can start a little behind where the "trough" would be and end a little ahead....a slight arch cut was what I had in mind without reaching quite up to the 1st bend....If u do it..show us a pic...may become a "SOP" when installing these Tubz....Every time I look them I think of how much fab time ol' Mike saved me!!!........lol.........jim

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

Jim-I was looking at the area where my hood rubbed and its only about an inch long. Your idea may be perfect. The trough area is maybe only 12 -15 inches long and that is the only area on the hood that would have to be trimmed so it should be pretty easy to make it look good.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

Hey Brett, I mentioned in Rob's thread that I would post what I did to build my rear air unit.

I used a Vintage Air underdash compact unit and t'ed it into my existing Vintage Air. It cranks out the cold and will freeze you out. Vintage Air does not make a rear air unit, so you have to get creative. Wasn't too tough. It does hang a little low in the rear though, but it doesn't obstruct the view in the rearview mirror. Here is the thread. I believe you can see the final product on page 3.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=506262&page=3

OF COURSE... mine is a driver, and you guys are doing some pretty awesome show trucks. But, it may give you a few ideas to work with.

EDIT: I just read through the thread and realized that in my rush to get it done for a beach trip, I didn't post ANY under hood photos or photos of the lines once it was plumbed. Oops.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

I was in the garage earlier and noticed a problem with the paint. The white stripe was supposed to go down to the lower body line. On the front half of the fenders for some reason we ran the tape line to the bottom of the grill instead of down past the body line. This wouldnt be noticible, but if I have trim on, there will be a blue line above the trim on the front part of the fender. I really wasn't wanting to repaint the fenders.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

It looks to me like maybe you ran the tape directly across the fender opening which, unfortunately, lines up the way you see it. HOWEVER, it looks KILLER!!! Just my $.02. Maybe you should rethink the trim.

For what it's worth, how hard would it be to just re-tape where you want it and spray just that area? I'm curious if a good wet sanding wouldn't level the surfaces if taped right.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

Thanks guys.

I should have rims and tires installed in the next week or two and maybe I will rethink the trim when they are on. James at Mar-K was saying the fenders have to come off to install the upper trim so there is the time to redo the fenders. Was talking to my dad and he says he can fix it. I just get nervous about the color being different if we have to redo the whole thing.

I got new door handles and new mirrors for Christmas. All I have left for parts on the exterior are trim, bumpers and grill shell and with any luck I will be able to get all that within the next month.

After I get my kids back home tomorrow, I will finish the sanding and buffing.

Once the exterior is done, I am going to finish up the mechanicals. I have factory disc brakes with drop spindles and I think I am going to change over to that kit tha CCP makes with the spindles that narrow the trac and the big rotors.

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

So, looking ahead a bit... Any chance you'll have it done by June? You could ride over to Arlington and kick off the Hot Rod Power Tour with us. That would be quite a large group of Burbs cruising together!

Re: 72 Dropmember Suburban

I got faith in ya! After all, this build just started at the end of May and you are rockin' it! You've got about 150 days! Haha! Even if it isn't "done" (they never are), maybe you can ride up and hang for the first day.
