Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap

wow! keep getting better and better....depends on overal looks you are going for...if "snow" is the theme...then just keep it white.

but if I look at the rendering, then probably something else is better.

normally I say go for a white middle, top and bottom part of the grill and make the "mesh" (is that what it is called) black...but then you should also consider painting the deflector under the bumper black.

when I look at the rendering and see all white and just some brownish accents...then I probably stick with white...will you be keeping the bumpers white?

I really dig this all white fron picture you took....supercool! (literally hahaha)

and just paint the bowtie same color as your accents!

oh, but now I see you are about to tint your windows? correct?........well...then the black in the grill and deflector would really complete the front view and give a badass contrast!

choices choices choices, hahahaha

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap

I have to agree with kikkgek, I would paint the bar across the front grill white, but paint the mesh, bowtie, and the under deflector black. The all whit truck is cool but can seem overpowering. That's just my .02 cents though.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap

Thanks for the input guys! Alright think i'll buy some mesh, cut it to fit the upper and lower half of the grille and paint it black, that way it's removable. And a black with chrome trim bowtie should really give it some nice contrast. Smoked lights would also look really good but I don't want dim lights at night..
O yea, what's a hickey hood? I already have a 4" cowl hood but never heard of a hickey hood..

Eh... on second thought maybe not. I think the cowl will work better....
Heres a hickey hood for you anyhow.

oo ok i've seen them, yea I think they look a lot better on the 70's body style trucks.

I need to get some pics up of my recent progress.. Was up til 2am last thursday then jumped in a van for 10 hours to nashville for the weekend. Had an ok time, would have been a LOT better if i didn't come down with Bronchitis. At home still recovering today.. i'm hoping to be back to work tomorrow then i can get you guys some pics afterwards.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap

Here's a few pics, first one is of the modified gorhino nerf bar mounts

A few shots of the core support

The batteries mounted in the tool box with a 250 amp Flaming River disconnect and big rig HD 3/0 cable

Last Thursday night Mike helped me finish up the doors, installed GTmat on the inside and outside panel of the doors and the 5way Pioneer 6x9 speakers. Then installed the JL Audio 10" shallow mount sub w/box and wired everything to a JL XD700 6 channel amp. I hooked up the radio temporarily on the floor since I don't have power to the dash yet. We took it for a test run and wow were we impressed! Very crisp sound, no distortion at all above 100db, and that little 10 really packs a punch and still fits behind the rear seat. Highly recommend this setup to others.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap

So after a month of Bronchitis which turned into pneumonia i'm finally starting to feel back to normal. Was able to get quite a bit of work done over the weekend while the wife was outa town. Here's a quick video and walk around.

THere is a big part of me that is continuously surprised that this project hasnt died. Its way over the top and way WAY ambitious, and has spanned more than a year (or more?)! A sad number of projects with that combo die early deaths. And im SO so very happy this one hasnt had that happen! In fact it look like you will finish it and end up with a truck that is hard to beat in many ways. Good work!

Oh man, I had a spell of pneumonia a couple years back. The worst part was letting it get so bad before I went and actually saw a doctor.

You've done an outstanding job putting that bad ass truck together!!! It's crazy!

Damn! That truck is coming out really sweet. It is actually idling really well for a twin turbo application. At first I thought it was an engine in the background that was idling. It's a great truck Eric. What conversion kit did you use to swap in the Cummins?

His engine does sound nice, but IMO his idle needs turned up. The turbos do not effect the idle. Every compound turbo truck I've been around idles fine. Unless it has a big cam, and or the govoner springs have been messed with, heck even full cut DV's will make the idle goofy.

Re: 89 crew cab k20 4wd twin turbo cummins swap

another update, got the brakes, clutch and power steering all hooked up. Found out my john deere baler cylinder was too slow for my steering so i had to break down and buy a psc cylinder. Then took the truck for a short test drive up and down the road. Found my hydro boost and power steering pump are leaking pretty bad.. Then my tire barely caught the lower bumper valance and broke it.. And i got an idler or something annoyingly squeaking, can hear it in the video.. But on the bright side she drove and rode really really nice. Felt like i was riding in a new f-150, think i'm really going to like those sulastic shackles. And i can't wait to have a leg like Barney Gorman from pushin that clutch ; )
Here's some pics of the little white giant soakin up some rays in the yard and a video at the end.
ps plantin season is starting so you won't be hearing much from me guys sorry..
