Re: 55 2nd serie GMC
Thanks, I'm shooting for the Super run in Brandon. That is if i can find a body man that can help me finish the body work without ripping me off. Do you know someone with reasonable rates, I just can not see myself paying 10grand for body and paint when all the metal work is done. Chrome was done at the chrome pit. The fan is 16". I live in Fannystelle just south of Elie, you can drop in any time.

Re: 55 2nd serie GMC
Since the truck is at the body shop I thought i would pull the car out of hibernation. Maybe the snow will go away faster.

Re: 55 2nd serie GMC
Can you give us any sort of an idea what the final body work and paint is going to cost you - even a rough idea?
You did some excellent body work in advance of sending it to the shop and that has to have saved you a ton of money. Could you imagine if a shop had to charge you by the hour to do all of your mods? Just wondering as I am still hoping to have most if not all of the main body work completed on mine in advance. Thanks and I understand if you don't want to say. Just ball park it! 56hotrodred (Barry) |

I also decided to get new box sides from Mar-K.com, I can buy two new sides for less then the labor cost to bring mine ready for paint.

Re: 55 2nd serie GMC
So you still have almost $5000.00 just getting it ready for paint. I knew it was not going to be cheap. I am just trying to get my ducks in a row although I am way off from paint. I am going to have to prepare my wife well in advance for that big hit. At least right now I can keep it down to a bunch of little bills but that one is going to hurt.
When it is done I and others would probably be real interested in what the bill was so as said we can plan and better prepare out better halfs. Can't wait to see it done. What colour(s) did you decide to go with? 56hotrodred (Barry) |

Re: 55 2nd serie GMC
If you dont want to spend all that money on a paintjob you could allways do it yourself like they did this past week on the tv show TRUCKS, going for a "patina" look and doing it with paint brushes and rollers for a few hundred bucks
Personally I liked the look, Im gonna do it to my truck so that it looks the same as before I started tearing it apart. |

Re: 55 2nd serie GMC
And he hasn't even talked about the cost of supplies. You say your getting new bedsides, is that fenders and all?

While the cab is at the body shop I'm working on the box. Got new box sides today, assemble everything together to see the fit, i can tell you it fits very well together when its all new parts.

Re: 55 2nd serie GMC
Last couple of evenings was spend doing the steps modifications. I had used another set when i was mucking up the exhaust tips. I only had the cut out done, this time i had an arch welded inside to give it strength. Also these are in better shape.

Re: 55 2nd serie GMC
Well progress is at a slow pace but its moving. The cab is still at the body shop, should get some paint on it pretty soon. Most of the work done in the past weeks is being done to get better door gaps.

Looking good. Its amazing the amount of work these trucks need to get good door gaps.I don't look forward to that part of my build at all.
