Re: Finally my own build thread!

What's that chassis built for, and is the torque-tube stock or lengthened (looks modified)? Sweet purchase

Re: Finally my own build thread!

I am not sure what that chassis is for. From what i was told everything is stock. I hope that is true. I kind of bought this chassis without doing my normal homework. I will find out alot more when i pick it up.

Re: Finally my own build thread!

It would be a miracle if it happened to be ~10.5-11" longer than stock Doesn't look like it, but the tube does look too clean/smooth to be OG.

I guess I'm assuming you are putting it in a truck. Are you?

The wheelbase is 104.5". I think these things have a flexible drive shaft so altering the wheelbase could be interesting.

They have an alluminum driveshaft and they don't recommend extending it. To much flex. So Frizzle Fry gave me a number to a guy who extends the torque tube which let me to another guy who builds carbon fiber driveshaft and extends the torque tube. He has done tons of these mainly for a tri five chevys. It is just a little expensive is the only problem.

Well i was looking for an LS1 motor when i came across this. I bought it for right about the same price you would get for just a LS1 motor and tranny. So that got me thinking. I haven't seen anyone do a c5 vette swap into a 67-72 c10. So i am giving it a try and from all my calculations i can do it. I actually just started building the new frame and by this weekend i will have the frame built. I was going to start a new build thread since i am still going to keep this frame and after i finish the c5 build then i am going to build a rat rod or build a truck and sell it. I am going to use cab and all the sheetmetal from this build thread so I am not loosing to much time going backwards.

Re: Finally my own build thread!

Well I have been very busy. Just a short recap on what is going on. I decided to stop on the c5 corvette project because i need alot of money to finish it they way i want (top notch, high performance everything) so i decided since i already had all the suspension parts that i would just start this build thread over and build it to sell. My goal is to get the truck done and show it at a few shows then sell it to help fund the c5 corvette project truck.

Here is what i have been doing to this project. I started over and built a whole new frame because i wanted to change a few things from the original design. I never liked how the shockwaves sat in the strong arms because the strong arms are designed for bags so i decided to change them. I cut out all of that flat steel and then built new mounting points for the shockwaves. It lowered the shockwave down an inch or so which made the whole setup a little cleaner. Then i changed Nathans original design for the upper control arm mounts not changing where the upper control arm mounts but just how they mount. I built a new upper mounts which moved the control arm to the other side of the mount allowing cleaner mounting point for the shockwave. The shockwave mount adds a little more strength to the upper control arm mount. Here are a few pics

Re: Finally my own build thread!

For the rear suspension setup i went with the cantilever rear suspension and a trianglated 4 link. I never liked on my old setup how the 4 link had different mounting brackets and i thought they never "flowed" so i decided to build them into the frame. The tubing ties into the tranny tunnel and then welds to both sides of the tube frame w/flat plate gussets to reinforce where it goes through the frame which strengthens the rear middle section and gives me a strong mounting point for the upper 4 link mounts. Here are some pics and a few more of the front suspension.

Re: Finally my own build thread!

That was all of the progress pics i took when building the new frame so here are a few pics of the finished frame. I think it came out great but that is just my opinion.

Chrome!!! It will be powdercoated when i am done with it but that might be a little bit. Now comes the hard work. Thin sheetmetal. Me and thin sheetmetal don't get along very well but it will be okay. At least that is what i am telling myself. After i mock up all the sheetmetal and double check that everything is centered I am taking the plasma cutter and completely removing the factory cab floor and building a custom one. I still have to make motor mounts and tranny mount but i already have that figured out so that should only take a day or two. My goal is to have all the sheetmetal, motor and trans which is a LS1 and 4l60e so when i go to Hot August Nights car show i can show what the truck is going to look like. I already paid the $150 to be in the show so why not, right! After i get the sheetmetal mocked up and the motor and trans installed then i am going to start the exhaust. I am hoping to have the exhaust come out the side of the bed right before the rear tire. After seeing Nathans rendering of his project truck i can't stop thinking about it.

Thanks for the complements guys! I have a tremendous amount of hours in this thing and it is nice to hear that other people like it as well.

Josh

Hey Daniel! I had a soccer game this morning so I didn't make it to church. I was hoping my game finished before second service but it ran late. I am going to have the truck outside for a few days while i clean my garage. If you have time give me a call ( I will pm you my #) and swing by . Talk to you later.
