I just noticed the anti-rattle latch that holds the tail gate closed in post 217.
I had always been under the assumption that the curved hook on the chain should be inserted from the bottom of the bracket then up and around so it couldn't rattle it self out going over bumpy roads.
It is shown going straight down into the bracket.
Now that I think about it the bump would probably have to be so big in order to release the latch that you would have a bigger concern just to stay on the road.

I've always run my from the top down. I have both step & fleetside. With all the factory rubbers installed, mine stay pretty tight. I have had to adjust the bend in the hook on some trucks I've had, but normally that's due to 50 years of abuse to the beds and a bent tailgate.

When you say factory rubbers, where are they located ?
Between gate and box ?
Between latch and box ?
The reason I ask is because I have none.
I have the repo S/S latch and always thougt that there should be some paint protection between it and the gate.
Can these be found it the usual vendors ?

Yeah, all the vendors carry them. Let me find a good pic.

Here you go. This was an early dealer take off, so its all factory hardware as the factory installed it. You'll notice the small piece by the bedside mounting bolt also....and of coarse the chain cover.

Awesome stuff!!

I heard the RV scene really exploded in popularity back then, I'd say these ads are a pretty good representation of that.

I'll bet those things were soooo heavy back then too!

I'll see what I can find. A lot of them come from the popular magazines of the time. Field and stream, Saturday evening post, time and life magazines. Most can be found on Ebay with buy it now options from $3-10 each

I'm constantly finding new info on them. A lot of the info comes from the specific manufactures themselves. Figured I'd get some more posted since you asked about the camper stuff!!
