Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
I'm sorry your right. I get mixed up a lot. I haven't changed hummer tires in a while I'm so used to 20's with 375-85's on them.

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
Lil update..
Painted my headerssss. Heres the Before and after. Before: After painting and sandblasting. I used Krylon grill paint. Looks awesome! I also got gaskets: I also wasnt happy with the firewall.. The paint kept bubbling up.. What causes this? Heres what it looks like atm.

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
The headers look 100% better. With the paint bubbling up right away is probably because of oil. They use "wax & grease remover" to solve this, but for small jobs I usually just wipe down whatever i'm painting with thinner or acetone on a clean rag prior to painting. How did you sand the firewall before painting? Keep up the great work!

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
I would try to get at least a whole can of paint on both of those headers and after words and they have cured go over them lightly with a propane torch I have repainted mine twice now and curing them with the torch and using more paint they have held up so much better. Jus my .02

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
I saw the new ones, but in the picture with the headers back on it looks like the old gaskets.

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
Well. I did.
I hate the new spray paint I got. It never turns out good. It just runs off.. It pisses me off.

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
I have had good luck with duplicolor rattle can paint... And I like either flat black or satin black. Otherwise it will look like hell usually. And lots of light coats are best...

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
Did alot of work today.
8 hours of pulling the clutch and **** for the rebuild kit. Heres what we started with: Brand new Clutch but the pressure plate was crap. I thought I mise well replace it all while Im in there. I didnt get a pic of the new one but I got a upgrade one with a dif. Pressure plate: Well I thought sweeet. Almost done. Well then we found the real problem..the freaking clutch fork. New Im happy I finally got it all replace but the after we got it in.. It wont start... ****.. Before I left the shop I found 2 Wire(Pos and Neg) That had been freshly cut( proably from the tranny being put back on and it getting smooshed in half.. If anyone has a pic of the starter and the Wires that go to it. That wound be really helpful Thanks Ross

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
I say ditch the bumper and start looking for a cheap sport bumper. Hell you could even find a rusty one and sandblast it then paint it a nice satin black. Not glossy and not flat... Just an idea and with time could be done on the cheap. I dont like tube bumpers...
BTW cutting torch is the worse for catching on fire |
