Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

thanks dale, them fenders were an ordeal, just getting them, getting them busted, getting them fitted......
got most of the running gear in, some small things to do yet
made my own shocks then cut the loop off the stockers & stuck them together, & i used about twice as much tubing as i should have bending up that pass exhaust pipe. same with the d-shafts, made my own & cut the stocker u-joints off & jammed them together.

fixed up the raft. was missing a bunch of the ropes, & rope loops, oars, scratched up a motor. made it from a windshield washer tank, air compressor motor, some styrene, & a prop from an old aircraft carrier model. did'nt quite turn out the way i planned, looked like something from the '50's, so printed up some '56 johnson decals & ran with it....this will go on the '77

Isn't 1:30am tomorrow morning? Lol....It looks totally awesome. The green looks great and the white just sets it off. The rack looks cool too. Totally awesome job....

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

thanks dale, but i tell ya, NOT impressed with the revell re-issue snowplow.....hmmph..
i had planned on getting a few for the 73-87 fleet, but now i dont think so, not even really good for parts, most 73-87's are 1/25 anyways.....
this is not looking good-3 days in the stripper & nothing has come off the cameo body yet, dont remember what kind of paint i used, but man oh man, looking like a sanding strip job
Name: 573.jpg
Views: 362

so....to kill some time while the cameo soaks some more....
started building a crew from some junk. just kinda wingin' it. the sneaky pete cab is a real pia. it's as brittle as a dried out leaf, just touch it lightly & something happens. managed to break it in 3 spots, & crack it in 2 spots. prob why it was so beat up when i got it....

fill in the roof, make some proper pillars, a butt-load of sanding & shaping & i think i'll have a crew. just need a frame now, interior, axles, engine, box, tires.....

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

sure was ticking off the wife tonite
she was watching a show & i was running out to my crew every 5 mins.....close the dam door, shut the dam door.....
put a roof on my junkpile. spent the night just getting the window shapes & pillars in porportion. with this much bodywork, kiss away the drip rails, window trim & panel lines....before...

well, i was born in a barn...
starting to resemble a crew. put some roof ribs, drips, & window frames in. put a splash coat of primer over it to see where i still got to go over it with the sandpaper, then etch in some panel lines....
going threw the junk box, i got a motor & tranny, t-case, the hokey axles off the '77, can scratch a frame up, but i got nothing for a box.....yet

Cab is coming together pretty nice. That's some tough paint on the Cameo. What do you use that strips the paint and chrome but doesn't attack the plastic?

'55 is standing on it's own, still quite a bit to do to the susp, but it's there.
body on this aint the greatest. spent a couple hrs sanding the hood to get it sorta flush with the fenders, needs a little more i think.
dont like the way the box & cab line up either, not the greatest.

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

would you belive me if i told you i did it again? didn't take a pic, but was holding the t-case together & stuck it to my hand
we finally caught some decent weather & been stacking the hrs, so a little slow on the cameo...
still got some lines to run, steering gear & exhaust to make yet...
Name: 580.jpg
Views: 397
Size: 72.5 KBName: 579.jpg

got the int done, all chrome blacked out, actually i lied, i'm going to leave part of the grille chrome, & the t-case lever is chrome, still working on the 454 (had to scratch another air cleaner...), the offending t-case...

dont like how the front of the box fenders are open, so i made a full bulkhead, primered up the body, couple minor touch-ups & hope to get some paint on it this weekend

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

yeah, i don't know Dale, going threw a spell-age maybe.....
you should see the floor under my bench, glad i got extra laminate....& when you spill it on your pants, they become stiff as steel...
wife's paint i found did'nt pan out, thinned it right down & still thick & lumpy. i sprayed the int with it & it covered the door & window crank completely. i liked the color though, think it's called "nutmeg", so i left it there & glued some plastic over the cranks to kinda 3D them. the bench is a shortened & raised one from an impala
Name: 574.jpg
Views: 452
Size: 48.3 KB

found this color (dont photo worth a darn) but it will work. the rear view is more the color....kinda....nutmeg...
just dropped the body on the frame to check, made a stupid mistake & did'nt catch it, the 454 is longer & puts the fan right into the rad-going to have to figure something out without making a huge mess (1 step forward, 3 steps back.....)

and been searching hard for boxes for the crew, which will cost me an arm & a leg, but i did find this on the net, i can build it for free, fits my cheap theme, & i could build it like the picture for free (got lots of stocker stuff), but i blew my cheap theme all to heck & ordered a whack of swamps, axles, t-case's.....bout $60 worth so i can build a "ALPINE" off-road rollback, companion to Light Rescue 168....

I like the color, it has work truck feel to it. Truck looks tough. I like tow trucks, roll back would be cool.

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

yeah, it would be waaay cheaper (like free!) to do a rollback than get 2 shorties to make a LB.
managed to get out of my screw up. cut the rad out of the core & shoved it forward-works! yay, cause it's forward now, the hood dont close....

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

well my day got off to great start....
first thing this morning, a piece of metal tagged my thumb, felt it hit the bone....
should have went for stitches, but we were on the far side of Harrison lk, 'bout 40 mins to the walk-in, & we had a few passing showers, so i really could'nt comfortably go anyways with the roof half done.....plus i NEED the hrs....
i'm going to try finish the cameo, then take a break for a week or so. trying to build models with 1 thumb is like.....hmmmm, trying to pick your nose with your big toe

man, i should have stayed in bed today....
attempted to one thumb the windows in the cameo, spilt thinner all over the windshield. wiped it off right away, but 10 mins later the old plastic started cracking up-bummer! so it's on indefinite hold till i can find a windshield. really hoping someone on my model forum comes threw....figures....

Ouch!!!! I suggest you let that heal up a bit. Does the bone feel like it's bruised? If so that takes a while to quit hurting. Not to be a smart acre or anything but that would have been a good candidate for the super glue to close it up....
