Didnt get to meet you yet but got a good look at your ride man, really hope you can help me with my rockers someday! I need a windshield and some electrical work and I am on the road! I have a ton of other pics of trucks from our era but not sure if any of them are site members.

Yeah but if you use "The Pusher" on those VW's it will wad up the wheelie bars and the header!

1) it's hard to do that knowing you have a nice set of rear tires 2)it takes some bal*s to do that in (my perception) a nice neighborhood |

Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
HEDMAN HEADERS, 2 1/4 Dual exhaust, Dual 2-chamber flowmasters, Exhaust dumps about 18 inches after the cab. towards the front of the rear tires, Love how the exhaust blows the tire smoke out from rear Hurst cheaters!

Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
Well was cruising down the freeway Saturday afternoon and had a little incident with my truck. The drivers rear tire spit some piecrust and slick off while I was going 70 mph through a left turn.
Scared the crap out of me, and truck decided to change lanes almost immediately. Thankfully know one was next to me. Pulled truck of freeway to a parking lot inspect damage. After bending wheel tub out of tires way was able to drive truck home. I was about 40 miles from my house. Talked with tire guy today he was very cool and seemed willing to try and help me out ,however I will probably have to ship tire to him so he can inspect it . My tires are a little over 3 years old and it is a HOTROD. I am not angry, Unfortunately this stuff just happens. I did manage to score some rear wheels and tires off craigslist. Once they are on truck I can drive truck to friends body shop for repair of bedside and rear tub. Then see what tire guy can do. Not posting this to slam tire guy. It could have been much worse, and like I said previously STUFF HAPPENS. First pic is before.

Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
thats too bad.
my dad never had anything good to say about recaps, I think that kind of thing had happened to him before as well. like you said lucky you had some room, I have done the rear blowout thing at 70 before.. takes a bit to bring 'em in.

Sorry to hear that, glad you're OK, but hey, look on the bright side, at least you didn't have a 12k paint job. The truck is still B@d @ss with its battle scars man

I didn't know that cheater slicks were recaps.
Glad you motored through it sunny side up.. Are you planning to run something different on the rear now? |

Re: 1966 Chevy SWB Gasser influenced truck
Hurst and Towel City slicks are recaps, Radir Slicks are new tires. A lot of local guys ran recap slicks in the 60’s. I don’t remember one ever coming apart, but several guys ended up doing a 360 through an intersection when they tried to stop on wet pavement and the rear end broke loose and came around.
I love the way they look and really wanted a pair on my truck a couple of years ago. But I couldn’t beyond the concern of wrecking the truck over an encounter with a water puddle (which we have a lot of). And if too much tread is cut into them they just don’t look right. |
