Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

IM BACK !!!!

My life has kinda taken a turn for the worst, so I have been trying to keep it together for the sake of my kids (first and foremost), my business, and of course the roof over my head.

The Burban and every other project HAS to come in last in regards to what has to some first ....

Anyway, here are some updates !!!

When I left off, I was repairing the passenger side of the Rad support (Driver side I will get to soon) ... Next it was time to prep the front of the 94 Chassis to except the 62 Support, and front bumper ....

The front of the chassis was measured, and cut back and a VERY basic crossmember out of 2x4 was created which will be modified as we go along....

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

Some scrap, left over 2x4 tubing was used to accomplish this front section.

The 45's were welded in for support, and fill.

I needed 8" drop from the top of frame to get the stock frame horns to locate properly.

The 45's will be modified/trimmed as necessary for clearance, them capped.

STOCK style front mounts were used ....

Using the fenders and Rad support as a guide/locater, and of course my trusty measuring device (string) .... I centered up and locted the frame horns ....

Re: '62 GMC BurbMaster "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

OK, so we are passed the fenderwells ...

Now the passenger frame horn need some clearance for the tank/lower outlet ...

Plasma cutter action takes care of this, then once satisfied, I will plate/cap to make frame solid again ....

Re: '62 GMC BurbMaster "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

The top mount came next.

Originally , I was going to fab up two separate mounts for the top ... but I decided to go with a plate style, similar to newer GM's.

Cut off the nipples (ouch, sorry ladies) ... and 1/2" stock locates the isolaters

Re: '62 GMC BurbMaster "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

I used the existing top bolt hole loactions, and drilled the two outers for the wedge cuts ...

Weld nuts on underside.

Final grind/sand will come later before Powder ...

Thanks man !!

Next up was the additional tranny cooler off of the Roadmaster ... might as well use it. Bypassing the radiator all together, and running a large cooler in front is the preferred way, but my tranny temps in the burban should be marginal.

I will be towing with it, but nothing more than 5000 lbs or so.
-
-
-
First step was mounting of the cooler. I didn't get pics of that, but basically I just reshaped the aluminum brackets to fit the core. Looks like it was made for it ...
-
-
-

-
-
-
Rather than run rubber hose (that would be toooo easy), hardline is the answer !

To me, its more like art ...

Second line in. This one received just a bubble flare on the lower end, as it will slip into the existing 3/8" rubber line ...

The Engine Oil cooler was next. The stock lines did reach, but were slacked tight ... so I wanted it a little more cleaner. New hardlines, some push-loc fittings, and we were good ...
