so then I went out and dropped $250 on the Lexus GS450h hybrid transmission wiring harness, and I'm glad I did as it comes with two connectors that are very complex to build, they connect something called the resolvers to the inverter

the resolvers are essentially sensors and there is one per motor, as as you recall there are two electric motors in this transmission

often times when these harnesses are listed there are no pics of them at all or they are useless low resolution like this one

once I picked up the Lexus GS450h engine\transmission harness, the seller happened to be local (another reason why I got this one, knowing I may have overpaid was that I could pick it up for FREE and return/exchange it much easier if things did not work out for me)

it was time to thin it out, as you will see we do not use 90% of it, oh well

the small harness was a sub harness for fuel injectors that was just zipped tied to it essentially

I tell you what doing LS Swaps has sure prepared me for this.

so let's saddle up this horse, shall we

here we have those two resolver plugs, followed by the shift solenoid plug, and the last one closest to the tail shaft is the VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor

The orange high voltage AC wires are capable of handling upwards of 600 volts there are two of them, each one goes to a separate electric motor inside of that Lexus GS450h transmission

and on the other side, aka the driver side we have only one plug this is the Safety Neutral Switch

we will need three signals from this one

1. Park
2. Reverse
3. Drive

It's going to be awhile before I go electric. I'm waiting for GM to start manufacturing crate setups that could drop in place of an LS.

I did not know this prior to purchasing it, but learned later on that in addition to getting that Inverter plug we also get the two resolver plugs which will allow us to directly plug in our transmission harness into this Inverter harness, Bonus!

I actually enjoying wiring, especially unwrapping bulky harnesses and seeing where the wires actually run to

Note: second pic shows the unwrapped Inverter plug section, this is where most junk yards will cut off the pig tail for this connector, HUGE MISTAKE as you can see if you keep scrolling down because they lop off the two Resolver connectors which are only about 8" further down

and separating the strands into more logical branches instead of bundling them all together

... and 7 beers later, here's all we really need, so about $3 bucks worth of that $300 harness, ha ha

here it is all separated into different component runs for dramatic effect

so having acquired all of the components it was time to start building things, so although I bought a VCU kit it does not come fully built, you have to solder on the connector and a few gizmos like this voltage regulator yourself

and being a minimalist I only soldered on one of the two 20 pin connectors as that's all it takes to get the motors to spin, the other connector and the little red WiFi card are for temp sensors and gauges and such, we won't need them till later

as I attempt to wire this truck up let's count together the few components we need in a 100% electric vehicle

1. VCU - Vehicle Control Unit (the brain, the controller)

so I like to build up my electronics starting with the basics, and most need the ground and power leads first, this VCU Vehicle Control Unit aka PCM/ECU/ECM what ever you want to call it, aka "Brain" is no different

glowing red LED = Success!
