Re: Project. Long Overdue

Spent last night hooking up E-brake cables, Speedo cable, bleeding brakes, and messing with the dash wiring and now my back is paying for laying under the dash.

And best of all the wife is up for the epic journey to Dino's in November. Can't wait.

What did you finish your bed wood with? Is that a single stage paint?

Thanks Dude! I left the natuarl color on the wood and used a glossy spar varnish. 3 coats on the bottom and 4 coats on top. I color sanded and polished the last coat. I'm happy with how it came out.

The paint is a base/clear. Looking foward to driving it very soon

Glad to hear you are gettin stuff done!! And again, one of the cleanest hot rod trucks on here! Wish I was going to make it to the Cruise, but it is just not in the cards for me on this one. I will be meeting some of these guys at the GoodGuys show in Ft. Worth this coming October, wish you could make it down for that one too.

Thanks Slick...If it turns out as good as yours I will be stoked. Yeah it would very cool to meet you and check out your truck. There's always another one. I would love to go to the goodguys show in Ft. Worth someday. If it doesn't stop raining up here soon I'm movin' south again then I would be closer to the truck scene down there.Later, Kelly.

Sorry Dude! I worked on it sunday and it was a bad day in the garage...My shorty headers weren't going to work. So I stole the ones I bought for my Son's truck...Had to notch the towers for the motor mounts so they would fit, preceeded to scratch the living !#*t out of my frame on the drivers side. I just put the cover on it and went inside.

I have been out of town the last few days at a project we have going on at a maximum security prison in the middle of Nowhere,WA. I have been in some others before for work, but never a maximum security one. When we walked through one of the housing units these guys were watching us and I was scared s!@$less. The look these dudes have in there eyes is insane. The guards just told us not make eye contact and everything will be fine. Makes my small header problem not so bad.

I'll post some pics when I get back home. Later

Re: Project. Long Overdue

I had to use a couple of fender washers between the crossmember and the brackets to raise mine just a hair and it worked perfectly for my headers. I bet the Max Prison is a spooky place to even visit. Patiently waitin for some more updates!

Nice!
So how'd the headers fit? Looks a little close to the heater hose?

Thanks. I had to notch the towers for the front tube on each side, but other than that they fit good. The angle of the picture makes it look closer than it is.

Dropped off the truck at the painters last night for some touch ups. I have been working on it so much lately I'm not sure what to do with myself while its gone. Maybe my wife can find me something to do Heres a few pics.

After getting it unloaded we grabbed some beverages and went for a boat ride..now I want another boat.

Re: Project. Long Overdue

Sweet! Glad to see something that works well. Plans on the rest of the exhaust? I've been eyballing mine, wondering how I'm going to get it over the rear end? I'd like "barely visible" tips just past the rear wheel opening.

Know what you mean on the boat! We've got an old tug and really want to upgrade. Looking all the time. BOAT = Break Out Another Thousand.

The exhaust was a year old when I tore it apart, so it will go back on. I have to change the head pipes and I will add an X-pipe. It is 2 1/2" w/flowmaster's 40 muffler. I am going to wait and see what it sounds like and I might go with a Spin tech muffler later on. Mine is the over the rear end..it's a little tight but I had no problems with it before the truck was apart. The tips dump at the back of the rear fender and are barely visible as well.

Yeah I miss my boat sometimes...but around here you get to use it about three months a year. If I lived up at the lake where the painter is I would have another boat and belong to the redneck yacht club up there Good times. Later.Kelly

Re: Project. Long Overdue

Cool! I'd really like to see some pics of your exhaust when you get to that point if you can. Especially how you get it over the rear end and track bar. Was it the tops of the engine stands that you had to notch?

Is that paint really Butternut or does your handle come from something else? That's my current plan (white top), but your's sure looks darker, like a Corvette yellow.

I will post some pics when its all done. My truck is a GMC so it's a leaf spring truck. Yes it was the top of the stands that I had to notch.

Originally I was going to paint it butternut yellow...but I went with something different. For whatever reason it looks brighter in the pictures than standing there looking at it. It is alot lighter in person...those are pics from my phone so maybe that has a difference. Yeah that is where my handle comes from. Thanks for looking.
