...... yeah, just a piece of angle iron that I didnt have to cut. 1 less thing to do helps; I've opened up enough projects already.

Opened up a real can of worms and pulled out all the crap in the way and and I'm cleaning up and painting everything. I figured I mite as well as you dont get the chance very often......so this is where I am. Looks like the truck was gold originally.
Any body else find zinc-chromate under their paint?? I didnt know they used that stuff

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Everything cleaned up nicely. Rattled on some black and swung in the engine. I had to pull it back out as my mounts were 1/4'' too close together. No big deal, but it had to be done. Your mount holes should be 17'' apart. I was a little tite and just couldn't get it to drop in place. The second shot was a beauty and it dropped right in and had to do the usual screwing around to get the bolts thru the mounts....nothing major for only being told this should work and never having seen it done. My trans pulled forward about 1.25'' and the holes lined up perfectly in the frame.
Anyway, here are the pics..........

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
.....I'm adding the info 'cuz I see and read so much hearsay and 1/2 finished stuff that its hard to get good info on some projects. When I finish this it will have all the info about one method of swapping a BBC into one of these frames.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Have the serpentine set-up complete. A complete maze of metric and SAE bolts. Mocked up the engine just to see if everything was going to fit....like someone could actually run out of space under one of these hoods. The a/c compressor is just a heavy pulley right now; eventually it will get tossed.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Few small updates....I've been bogged down in a bunch of small things to work out. Transferred my TV bracket to the quadrajet by measuring an Edelbrock and drilling the linkage. Made a throttle shaft and also had to use a 1'' spacer due to the low riser stock intake. I have only 3.75'' to the radiator so I went with electric fans. My intake had to be drilled and tapped for 3/8's NPT for a fan controller. The Sanderson cast exhaust headers have excellent clearance but cover the pipe plugs in the heads. Also had to go with a mini-starter.
...also my version of a spring stretcher as I've seen a few people put on here before. More soon as I believe I have everything covered now.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Made more progress. The thing is wired and the fuel is hooked up. Starter on and heater assembly went back in. I'm going to put everything in loom after I start it and I know its working correctly. Carb is ready and I'm working on the fans. Need to get hoses and put in my Milodon trans and oil dipsticks.

Looking good Jeff....won't be long now.
Is that a battery disconnect next to the heater? Is it operable from inside?

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Thanks Alan; it's making me look forward to sanding on the p/u again. Quote:
I wanted to take this to Goodguys but it's not happening. I could have thrown this thing in here and gotten it going but I decided I wanted to do things neatly so I didnt have anything to fix or work on later. The hydroboost is going to be put off for awhile as I picked up a new-old 60's steering column that will be replacing the hacked up column in the truck. It needs bearings and a turn signal switch. It also came with the bracket to mount under the dash which will replace the Frankenstein creation under there now. Being that all of this stuff is together under the dash I thought those two projects would go well together allowing me access to the brake mechanism while the column is out.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Care to elaborate on the tv bracket on the quadrajet? I didnt think it would be easy, you make it look like its just a matter of drilling holes. That can save me the money I was gonna spend on a new carb.
