Wow that's a pretty good difference. When they had the ethanol mix here it was only a $0.10 per gallon difference. So no real motivation to use the different fuel.

It's kind of a P.I.A. to do though. You need to machine out the front pad to accept the modified nipple, then make a plug for the old opening on the top. It takes a very precise hole to be able to get a good seal with the nipple and a precisely machined plug. I think it will be much less of a headache to get another pump.

The 2007 and up truck pumps almost look like they were made for this swap:

And the '07 up truck pumps should be a direct fit, they use the same gaskets.

Well, due to my joining this forum and finding your project I have now embarked on pretty much the same route that you are already on. And I like the idea that you keep finding all of this useful info before I even get the chance to ask.

Just impressed with your thoroughness.

i didnt realize that there was so much involved w/ modding the pump! thats way too much trouble... i thought they were just cutting the nipple down a bit.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Thanks guys! I like to fully know what I'm getting in to before I dive in head first!

And now...... how the hell do you lose an engine and trans on a pallet???? Delivery was suppose to have been made this morning. Several calls to the shipping company has relieved that NO ONE knows where it is at, or through which terminals it was routed!

I'm a happy go lucky guy, but this really chaps my backside!

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

That's because I hacked into the system, and had it rerouted to me!

Don't worry I'll send you my old engine and tranny so you can still receive a shipment!

on the topic of pulling up to the E85 pump with the C10, I remember one time I pulled up to a diesel pump in my C10, I had a guy in a powerjoke pull up behind me and stick his head out of the window and goes "you know that's diesel"...I very shortly yell "Holy !@#$, what do I do now?"...the guy says "I think you're screwed, you might want to call for a tow...I'll help you push it out from the pump", because he wanted to fill up...so I told him "Yeah let me pull it out of gear"...hopped in the truck, started it up and smoked him out...it was awesome...made me feel more like a man...lol...I went around the gas station and he was sitting at the pump still laughing...we sat there for about thirty minutes talking and bsing...he just had to see the detroit I had under the hood...

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Talked to the shipping company about 30 minutes ago. They found it..... still sitting on the dock in California!!

So I called the shipping guy at Rancho Recycling and explained everything to him. I told him I don't think either one of us should be paying for shipping for this deal. He agreed. He is going to talk to his boss and they will get back to me.

Not that I am in a real hurry to get it here, but I'm a stickler on doing what you say you are going to do. This is all on the shipping company, and I'm in no way upset at Rancho. They did their job. But on our weird family schedule, trying to figure out when I need to take the truck and trailer to work, while shuffling around the kids, is sort of a pain.

OK, I'm off my box now. It's out of character for me!

That's the kind of stuff you need to rant about. So many places now don't care about customer service.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Eastern Tamaroon

Just got off the phone with the shipping company, again. They say it is on the dock in Denver and will be delivered today!

On another note; Fred went on a 385 mile trip this weekend to Steamboat Springs and back. The truck ran flawlessly over Cameron Pass (10,276' elevation) and Rabbit Ears Pass (9426' elevation). Between the new steering gear, the new shocks, and the "new" seat, it was a blast to drive. Even my wife on the way home said it was so comfy to be in that it would make a great road trip vehicle. Didn't track mileage, but based off past fill-ups, it probably averaged around 14-15.

And now, the obligatory pictures:

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

I love it in Colorado! Except for the rattle snakes, don't care for those. Never have.

Good news, engine and trans is here!!!! There are a couple things missing, like the top cover and the yoke off of the driveshaft. But I'll get everything out tonight and see what's not there and let them know. They said they would ship out anything that was not there that should have been.

On another note, I decided against the LS1 intake. After talking to Roger Vinci of Vinci Performance (camshaft maker) and Thunder Racing, I decided it would put me three steps back.

I knew I would lose a little bottom end by going to the LS1 intake, but after some more research and talking to these guys, this would actually be the worst intake to use. I want bottom end, I'm not trying to max out RPM's and HP. The LS1 is the worst at making low end torque. So the best bet is to use the truck intake, followed by the LS6 intake. I don't want to spend the extra couple hundred for an LS6 intake, so I'll stick with the truck intake and try to make it look better. Plus, I don't really want to go to a 2600+ rpm converter.

So since my plan was to build a reliable hot rod that runs hard AND gets great fuel mileage, I'll stick to the truck intake. Later I'll still probably do a cam and converter, but I'll probably continue use the truck intake, unless I find a smoking deal on an LS6 intake. But by that point, the truck will take on a whole other purpose.
