Raised the front end up today.

This pic explains why the Mustang II IFS actually supports
less weight in a typical street rod than it was initially designed to carry.
In the top image the stock Mustang V8 carried 1850 lbs on the front suspension.
The Pinto carried somewhat less at 1700.
The street rod only carries 1600 lbs due to the location of the engine.

After adjusting the front coil-over shocks about an half of an inch the other day it seems after driving it a bit the springs have settled.
So I don't need to adjust them any more.
The Bump Steer, and the Anti-Dive have been corrected.
So now the geometry is just right
I took some measurements around the truck - in the front, sides, and rear at certain key set points and everything is true. The stance of the truck is set around the Mustang II IFS Clip.
Later (when I can afford it) I will purchase the Heidts Upper Tubular Control Arms for Mustang II Suspension.

Is that a bolt on front suspension?

If it is, where did you find it? I have been looking for a rack steering for my 63 everywhere but haven't had any luck.

I am looking for bolt on to replace the stock bolt on suspension and I am tired of playing games with the power steering conversion stuff.
Just want to drive the thing

Well Bud,

I have a Mustang II IFS Clip on my '62 from a 1976 Mustang II IFS (Manual Rack)
You can see the stub frame in this video.

I have never was a fan the torsion bar front suspension on these trucks, but I am a big fan of Mustang II IFS. (Don't like Pinto IFS.)
Most guys use the Mustang II IFS on thier Hot Rods, Street Rods, Cars and Trucks.
The most common 3 are -Mustang II IFS - Camaro - Nova Stub Frames.
In my application with the Mustang II IFS Clip I lost a lot of weight removing the torsion bar front suspension. Gained disk brakes and gained better ride quality and handling characteristics. If anyone chooses to go with this route you have to make sure the geometry is right. I also have 2" Drop Spindles on her too..
My father and I cut out the X out mainly so we can put the cross member for the TH350. When we got rid of it we had to Box and Relieve the frame to make it strong.

Heidts sells IFS Kits for:
'37-'39 Chevy Pick-Up
'40-'46 Chevy Pick-Up
'47-'54 Chevy Pick-Up
'55-'59 Chevy Pick-Up

Heidts also sells the Heidts Universal Mustang II Crossmembers
http://www.summitracing.com/search/B...I&autoview=SKU

To my knowledge I thought there were no bolt on applications for IFS's for 60-66 trucks. Until I searched again today! If it wasn't for you asking me I would have not did an extensive search.

So I have found something you might be interested in.
BOLT-IN FRONT STEER IFS for '60-87 GM/GMC Pickups -- A total bolt-in package:

Also I found this:

There is a company called Street Rod Engineering
http://www.streetrodengineering.com/...gllifskits.htm
that sells a Heavy Duty Mustang II Independent Front Suspension crossover kits for 1960-1966 Chevy/GMC Trucks.

Re: Project: "Full Metal Yellow Jacket" Build Thread

Thanks for the info.
None of those are what I am looking for.
I am looking for a direct replacement bolt in cross/K member that incorporates a manual rack set-up. OR a manual rack system that I can use with all the stock stuff.
I do not want to drop the 63 pro-street truck much if any and I am just tired of looking for a power steering setup for my straight six 3/4 ton truck and the power steering gear box adaptor I got from CPP and 2 others were all garbage.
I need the cross member exactly like the stock one because I use the late 70's diesel GMC motor mount perches to mount my Pontiac motor and all of the other replacement stuff I find is all geared toward chebby small block powered trucks.
Thanks again for the info... but I will keep looking or just swap my frame to a 68-72 frame like I am my other 63 truck.

If I dig around I might be able to find some pics of it before I took it out of the firebird before I sold it.

I sold my original hood a couple of years ago to a member on here Aboz.
I kinda wish I would of hanged on to it. I just have to pay the body man extra now to fix my premo fiberglass 6" cowl hood Unlimited Performance Products sent me.
The way you see it is the way they sent it to me. It's in pretty bad shape. Pin holes, thin areas, and it's just chipping away on the outside as well on the inside.
It's like looking at the menu at every fast food burger place.
Boy that picture of that burger looks good....
So you buy it. But when you get it and open the wrapper it's throwed together, under cooked, covered in grease, and taste like crap. Just tears an Ole Boy up.

Any hoot. You live and learn.
Be nice if you can buy a better quality, better fit and better design for our trucks.
Harwood has the best fiberglass and carbon fiber hoods on the market.
They are super nice!
If more 60-66's request them they might be persuated to start making them.

Just to let anyone interested in buying a fiberglass cowl hood for the 60-66 trucks, there are 2 companies who make them. Unlimited Performance Products and US Body Source. Both have bad reputations.

The cowl hoods on 60-66's are not my style at all. I guess to each his own.
I had one that I got with my 63 truck and it was the first thing to go.
I like the stock GMC hoods best. I have one on my 63 Chebby. I may change it to a Chebby hood if I find a nice clean one. Maybe not.
About your truck.... Plan on painting that dude soon??
My 66 is coming apart tomorrow to be moved to the "new" 71 frame and get painted at the same time.
Keep up the good work

Thumbs up Re: Project: "Full Metal Yellow Jacket" Build Thread

Yea,

I gotta fix the doors a do a few more stuff to her then she will be ready for paint.
I have decided to paint her bright yellow with flames on the front and maybe on the rear fenders. Old school phat transitional color flames with outlined flame tips. My dad wants me to paint her semi-gloss black with flames...
I don't know.... I always loved yellow on old cars/trucks and hot rods.
Seen a yellow 69' camaro RS/SS once with flames like that and it was one bad mamma jamma. White, orange, red, blue, with white hand brushed outlined flame tips. You used to see it a lot done in the 50's and early 60's. Now guys don't do flames like that anymore. Not a lot of people know how to paint flames the right way. I'm still looking for a good painter. Shouldn't be a lot of body work they will have to do. This truck has been a frame off restoration. Been a stocker, street rod, and now Pro/Street. I'll get her done one day soon. She don't look like much but I have little over $22,000 in her.
