Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
Still working on the rust repair so far I've shaved the coners on the bed and left gas tank. The technique I use in order to prevent warping is to blow air after each tack, and when grinding the welds I go with a ruff grit like a 60 or so to chew the weld faster and not create so much heat. So I desided not to run AC & heater or wipers I will fabricate a sheet and place over the fire wall in order to get the smooth look without going crazy with the filler and relocate the wires to hide them. I will also fill in the inner fenders and the radiator core support.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
Looks great. Good job.
Which model of the Lincoln MIG do you have? Mine is too small to do more than sheet metal with and I would like to upgrade. I like my Lincoln square wave TIG but it just doesn't lend itself to sheet metal work with needing both hands to weld, no free hand to hold the work piece with.

Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
Today I got the under dash pedal assembly . I also pickd up the mini 7" booster from CPP it accepts any standard corvette style master cylinder. the original stock booster will not work. This kit requires some fab work and welding and some fab work to the gas pedal to mount to the inner fire wall. I knocked out the booster. I still need more time to finish this one but here are a few pics.

I also patchd the holes from the sun vizors and the other small screw holes from the trim pieces, I plan to leave the interior space exposed painted surface no ulpstery or trim peces and for the doors i will fab some panels from aluminim, trying to get a raw industrial type of feeling. Re: LS1 into a 73 cheyenne
You're makin' great progress, And it's going to look great!
It's nice to see that other folks doing these projects aren't exactly expert welders. No offense intented as I am just starting to get a feel for my MIG welder, and my welds make yours look like Nathan Porter's. I was always told the only difference between a great welder and a mediocre welder is a great grinder . |
