Yes, that would be great.. Sounds like I need to get these reinforcement bars installed quickly. The shop is going to use the dash repair panel from brotherstrucks so I can put the original AM radio back in.

If you need a replacement in-dash speaker these 4x10 Delco special rectangles work well and are USA made: http://www.turnswitch.com/speakers.htm

I've installed two of these now in different trucks. The sound quality is much better than the NOS speaker I used for my K20.

This would look great and bring out the originality, but I don't have the original OEM brackets.. I search the net for some. If you know anyone who has them, let me know.

Not too hard to scare up. I'd try a WTB post on the pickup parts board when you're ready. I may have a spare speaker bracket. Not sure if radio brackets are on the spare AM radios I have.

Replacing the woodgrain. I want to use the same original trim, but want to find a good quality replacement for the woodgrain. I know LMC has it, but heard that it's not even close to what it looks like originally.

Anybody know where I could find just the woodgrain to replace the tailgate band?

I installed a repro wood band on the tailgate of a K10 I had while in NM - the decal didn't last a year outside in the NM sun. As a consequence, I've hoarded a couple of nice OEM bands. You can get the wood grain tape from LMC IIRC but I haven't seen it and can't remark on quality. Could get some and try it out.

Wow great build! Very impressed. I will be starting the same process soon on my yellow bomber. I see you went with 2.5" lift springs. I am trying to decide what size tires and lift to put on mine. Are those 31" tires? What did it start out as in your first photos?

As far as the leaf springs, I sure hope those are not 2.5" in lift springs. I'm going for a stock look. I did order new leaf springs from General Spring KC, but I'm pretty sure they are factory replacement, except they are not tapered like the originals.

As said before,your attention to detail is spot on.

I have been looking for woodgrain tape for a tailgate band and for lower side trim and I might try a very thin 3m wood veneer tape.
It is a little pricey.
Give it a look.

As for the door strikers, were these bolted into threads/nutserts that are somehow affixed to the pillar? On pickups there is a backing plate which will drop into the cab when the striker bolts are removed but not sure if K5's are the same. I have a fresh set of parkerized strikers I want to swap in but am afraid to drop the backing attachment (whatever it is) if loose then have to remove the rear panels etc. to retrieve them.

Yes they are. They move side to side and up and down, but they didn't fall down to the bottom. Here is a few pics

Quick update.. This weekend I transported the K5 to my place inside the garage so I can finish the tear down. The AC, electrical wires and heater is all I have about left before it's ready to removed from the frame and taken down to the body shop.

Any tips on removing the windshield?







Check out this cool Clifford Alarm system that I certainly won't be using lol. It has more wires than the whole truck does.

Cut the gasket with a utility knife and save the OEM trim. Don't wast any $$ on repro windshield trim. Get a Precision brand gasket and polish up the OEM trim for re-use.

Mine was still in good shape no cracks or splits, carefully worked it out with regular and plastic putty knives. cleaned it up and reused it. Same with the hard top window glass. Heard too many stories about ill fitting weatherstrip on glass. Either way.. Good luck.

Don't make the same mistake I did.. The Wilwood D52 Caliper kits will not fit our K5's with 15x8 rally wheels.

I didn't find this out until last weekend when I mounted the tire and was about to push the truck onto the trailer... The front wheels wouldn't budge. It turned the wheels where getting stuck on the caliper.

Thanks, that was my initial thought. I'm trying to save all my trim as best I can and just clean and polish with a dremel.

Do you cut it from the inside or outside or both?

I was disappointed to here this Mike. I ordered a set of black ones that got here yesterday just because I saw yours on your build thread. I can't imagine there's any more space behind a 15x6 steelie. Guess it's back to a stock single piston.

I cut the inside lip then gently push the windshield up and out. You wont need to make a circumferential cut before it comes loose. Key for re-install is the OEM trim. Avoid my mistakes with repro trim as detailed here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=484773
