Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

Hey Slacker, is that ALL you got done today?

I'm impressed Joe. Y'all ain't foolin' around are ya?

The lift adapter obviously worked out well. Were you happy with the way it lifted the cab?

What is the plan for the cab now that it's in the bed of your squarebody?

What's on the agenda for tomorrow?

Yea, I know I'm full of questions but hey, inquiring minds want to know!!

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

A fella that I work with sells/restores mopars and parts. He swears by the plastic media blasting.

As Captainfab had stated, if there is any of the soda left in cracks and crevices (and how would you possibly get it all out of the seams??) it can cause you paint heartache later.

On the subject of using sand, someone that is experienced with a sandblaster will not have any issues with metal warpage. The problem is finding a reputable 'blaster in my area.

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

Yeap, if you dont know what your doing, sandbasting WILL definately heat-warp the metal...I seen it first hand on my buddys 69 GMC hood.

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

cool, i will be looking into the plastic next week......
not much progress today
moved the engine perches to the forward holes (still need to drill the cross member for the lower bolts) and mounted the 700R4 to the 283 for mock up....found out the motor mounts are SHOT, the rubber has completely separated. I need to go pick up motor mounts and a trans mount before I can build a cross member
i have a set of the newer style motor mounts and perches that i'm debating on using........
disclaimer: the trans is no where near the proper/final position, it is just sitting on blocks to hold it up for now.....

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

Lookin' good Joe,I like your fabricated "cab lifter" and it's adjustable.

As far as blasting,I've been using coal slag or Black Beauty fine grit,it will remove rust and paint. It will heat up if you stay in one spot too long, but doesn't pit very much.
I found that for paint removal that a steam cleaner works really well.

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

That cab lifting tooling is outstanding!

Time to start renting it out, or sell plans for us to make it. Looks like it worked slicker than snot! Congratulations on your design and follow-thru.

Man seeing yours apart kinda annoys me because it makes me feel super lazy for not doing anything.

Thanks for all the cab pictures. Nice to see that gizmo in action
