I even topped off the oil the day beforehand, but I guess the rest of it was too thin. Regardless, about 12 minutes into my drive down Route 46, the gremlins came a'knockin.

Couple hours waiting for the tow, and the truck is back in the driveway, sitting until I find a new heart for it.
Well that’s not a good day ticket got punched let’s catch up sometime up just up the road in Hanover most of the winter

For sure, Jess! I could use a pal who's local with some experience building these rigs.

I'm not too upset about the engine, it was coming eventually. Now I just have a fire under my ass to accelerate that portion of my plans

Yeah I had fun with this engine while it lasted. It was surprisingly stout for a worn out, low ci v8. Ha.

My friend who works at a shop has a '98 350 with "lt1 heads" sitting around that was supposed to go in a client's car, but said client wrecked their project before this engine went in. It's looking like I'll go that route for now, as it's the easiest.

Patch work on the cab supports. Bought slip on support covers but didn't like the way the fit or function. There was enough good metal there to fix them.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

So I was taking the bolts out of my shifter and hit, broke, one of my micro switches for the p/l. To fix it I had to pull it apart, redo it and all the wiring I did before. My standards went up and it didn't pass code.

Put the tank back in and got her running for more than a couple of minutes. Next it's a tune up and a steering box.

No pics, but I finished modifying the bench seat sliders to fit my bucket seats yesterday. Just need to blast them and paint them. Still have a lot of work to do on the seats themselves though. Gotta repair the foam and get the skirts and bottoms cleaned and painted, then install the PUI covers.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Yesterday I went to go look at an LQ4 setup some guy had in his C15. Would have been a good deal/ good way to go, if the engine didn't knock...

Looks like I'm sticking to an older gen small block and saving the new stuff for down the road a ways, when I save enough to do it the right way, complete with a TKO.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I went to the DMV and paid up my tags.

My mail has been screwed up since I moved twice, so I was late because I never got the bill. But the DMV was very understanding... Well no they weren't. That was a joke. They hosed me out of over $600 and could care less.

My registration was apparently sent to my house in So. Cal. and my tenant was supposed to forward anything important to me. I guess he forgot about that, and I think his rent is about to go up.

I did an address change online when I moved, but that didn't seem to work, because it still showed my old address on 3 of my cars when I was at the DMV. But at least they smile when they take your money.

At least it's done now. Hopefully.

My new expensive sticker.

Sunday - state inspection. $7.00
Today - title and registration. $121.
Legal to drive on the public roads. Priceless.
Cheesy, but made me smile...

Well between the snow squalls 27° temps and 60 mph winds I managed to get the tank out of the 68. Need to get it boiled out full of rust .Just wondering what the 440 behind the tank and under the hood mean. Also my truck must have been made on a Friday. Runs all over the interior . Even the dash I'll get picks of if tomorrow.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Or made on Monday, when they all came in hung over. I can attest to seeing the guys going across the street to the "Chevy-Ho" at lunch time at the Van Nuys AD, and coming staggering back drunk as rats. Of course, the only "trucks" we built were El Caminos, and the occasional GMC Sprint.

Before going to work there, I worked at a dealer, and we had an El Camino come in with runs about every foot or so, on both sides. The Zone Office guy made a point to inspect that one! He wouldn't believe it, until he saw it. How many people could have laid eyes on it and not said a thing? Crazy. It came from the Van Nuys plant, as I recall.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Installed the spindles and coil springs today. Two big sons and the weight of the engine made it easy, even with stock height coils.

Now that the suspension is in I'll say this about Moog. It would be nice if they included all the hardware, and the right hardware too. Luckily my old castle nuts were refinished. Among other things they gave me 5/8" nuts for 1/2" studs.

That and zerk fittings aren't what they used to be. I used the old ones.
