Re: Show me your ratty hot rods!!!!

I felt like reviving this old thread I started awhile back, I thought its a pretty cool place to show off our trucks, the real trucks that get used and abused and are truly fun to drive, since you dont have to worry about scratching the "mile deep paintjob"

I enjoy seeing these budget built ratty hotrod pickups, as well as driving them, so here is mine now.

It evolved from being rusty white with red steelies,

To satin black with satin black steels, and it still gets used like a work truck yet itll outrun almost anything around here.. Please post up pics of your rat if you have one!

Re: Show me your ratty hot rods!!!!

A good thing thing about the old truck is when you come out of wally world there is nothing parked on either side of you. When I got it running last fall I had to wait 3 days to get the exhaust fixed. In a 10 mile trip I was pulled over by two local city's, 1 state trooper, and a sheriff officer. So open headers gets alot of attention with a BBB. the local,s didnt really care just wanted to make sure it was insured, the state cop wrote me three warning violations, and the sheriff just wanted see engine. With the small 2.5 exhaust with X-pipe and magna flows its sounds alittle calm, but soon as you hit the go peddle people tend to get of the way. So far i have out ran a 2009 mustang, 2010 camero, and some type of porche car. I work at a gm dealer and the owner cant beleive the beater outran a new camero. And thats blowing the back right off for about 200ft from about 45mph. Next week I should have a posi unit and some slicks. It dynod at 533 hp/6100Rpm and 568 ft lbs/4350Rpm

Re: Show me your ratty hot rods!!!!

thats awesome. Ive got a mild little 350 under my hood but its still pretty hot for what it is, Ive outran a few mustangs, diesels, new trucks, and plenty of ricers. One time i passed a mustang runnin about a buck-twenty or thirty (needle was pointing at the MPH at bottom of speedo), then i slowed down and stopped in a gas station to grab a coke, the mustang guy pulled in and asked me what I had in it, i say, 'oh its a 41 year old 350 with a edelbrock dual plane, a holley 650 double pump, an HEI, rams horn manifolds, true dual straights, with a turbo 350 and a transgo shift kit"

Then the idiot looks back at me and says, "Oh it has a turbo, thats why its so fast!"

I laughed and walked away... some people...

Re: Show me your ratty hot rods!!!!

This is mine. I have posted pic's before, but I have done more work to it since then. It has slightly built 327 bolted up to a T-56 and a 12 bolt rear end(3.73), but with the over drive it cruises at about 2400 @ 70 mph. The front cross member came from an 85 truck, So I have disc brakes and power steering. I just bought all the things I needed to paint in and make it look a little less like the Sanford & sons truck. Once I find a cab that is in better shape and the right price.

Re: Show me your ratty hot rods!!!!

I don't know about the '65 but on mine I just unbolted my old one and bolted the new one right back in it's place. There are two more bolts on the '85 than on the '69. Some people drill the two hole and some don't. I didn't and have just over 5k on it with no problems. I cheaped out and rebuilt everything on the '85, but the tie rods. I had to replace them soon after the swap. it wasn't that big of a deal, but would have been easier to do when it was not on the truck.
The guys on the 60-66 board should know more, but PM me if you have any questions.

Re: Show me your ratty hot rods!!!!

hey akman thats a good looking project, heres a couple pics i had taken awhile back, I love how the satin black looks when its preoffesionally photographed lol

When my grandpa was little he used to crack pecans under that bent over tree.

I love how this picture captures the sheen of the satin paint, along with the different shades of black on the wheels, tires, etc. pretty neat..

I was thinkin I liked how it looked white before but the satin black looks real clean with the tires/wheels and the exhaust running out on the sides like that. What kinda exhaust and size you running? I had similiar exhaust style running like that on my 64 chevy c10 then changed it to lakepipes. Like it better the way you got them though.
