Not much progress. I pulled out the mockup 327 I had in the truck and my new GM Performance Fast Burn 385 H.P 385 TQ. turnkey engine arrived. I am going to install it with the front serpentine drive setup so I can finish my front bracing cross brace. Here is a picture of the engine. It also came with the starter, air cleaner, fuel pump, plug wires, Holley 770 cfm carb, and the front serpentine drive setup with power steering pump, alternator, and A/C pump. I am not running A/C so I also bought the A/C delete pulley.

I actually sold the 327 that came in the truck when I bought it as well. I am planning on running the turbo 350 that came in the truck too but I have no idea what the stall is on the converter. It has lockup feature which was wired to a toggle switch. I also have no clue about the history /specs of the tranny either. I hate to just bolt it in and go without knowing anything about it. Would a tranny shop be able to help me out figuring out what I have for a converter? I'm thinking the tranny may respond differently with the tired 2bbl 327 compared to the new motor. I have 3.08 gears too which will be harder on the tranny as well. Suggestions? Thanks.

I would take the trans to a transmission place and have them go through it to see if ups to snuff and can handle your new motor. It may need to be rebuilt and/or just serviced. They could probably tell you more concerning your torque converter. Would hate to put it in and then you blown it on your maiden run. One step forward and 3 steps back.

Nice motor, and I agree I'd have a shop take a look at the tranny, especially with that rear end gear.

Awesome build! I like trucks low but I don't want to mess with airbags. I like this setup...
I realize that it isn't finished and that it's adjustable but I am curious how driveable it would be as it sits now? What is the lowest point of the underside?
The 62 looks great also. I had a 62 Bel Air that a local guy bought and turned I to an 8 second drag car.
Sorry to hear about the furlow. I work for local govt and we have too small of a staff to try it, although they did consider it.

Around 5" clearance at the front. I am building another crossmember that will be toward the rear just behind the cab which will incorporate a driveshaft loop that may be around 5" too.

I installed the new Fastburn 385 engine to continue with mock up. It comes with a 770 cfm Holley so I installed the chrome air cleaner that came with the engine and then put a stock black Chevy top on to see what it looked like too.







Does anyone know what I would need for a fitting to go into this style of power steering pump in the pressure port to convert to -6AN style fitting? Looks like an o-ring style female port. I am going to install -6 AN fittings in my power rack and make up some hoses.

Yes- something like those, but I don't know which, if any is compatible with my pump. The pump that comes with the GM front serpentine drive setup I have is the non remote reservoir "ham can" style of pump. I have seen some articles where those style fittings work in the pump with no reservoir attached but nothing as far as what the female fitting configuration is in my pump. It "looks" like it takes a o-ring style male fitting but most of the ones on Summit imply they go into the newer o-ring style steering BOXES. A couple do say pump, but don't have any more info as to which type pump. I think the later style pumps with no reservoir are called type-II pumps. I ordered a pressure reducing fitting for the pump that replaces the fitting threaded into the pump tank from Speedway Engineering and will measure the threads when it gets here and try and figure it out then (if that fitting fits my tank). Thanks.

Durg, look at this website. Since your box is part of the serp. set up, most likely it has metric fittings on the pump. They will be O-Ring fittings...

I have the cross brace together and installed ready to weld in the threaded inserts after I cut them to length. I also installed a fan and fan clutch. I am still torn on whether to use the stock plastic fan shroud or the early 60's Impala barrel style metal fan shroud. I ordered a 2 GPM flow control valve for my power steering pump and a 16mm metric style fitting to -6AN male to go into it but it doesn't seem to mate up properly. Still need to figure that out. I will call one of the vendors when I get some time during the day, maybe a NAPA run to see what they have available in their hose fab section. It takes me days to complete simple projects because I just don't have much time to spend on the truck lately. My ultimate goal is to get all the mockup and welding done, tear the truck back down to the frame for paint and powder coating so I can start re-assy in the fall and on the road sometime next summer.

Funny thing is that during the winter there is basketball practice 2 nights a week plus a game on the weekend and indoor soccer, snow removal etc. The real reason seems to be a lack of motivation over the winter months where it gets dark at 4:30 etc. The spring summer and fall is where I feel like working on the truck but just have a ton of other stuff I want/need to do. I only work on the projects when it is enjoyable to me. If it feels like I'm not having fun or enjoying it, I stop. I'm not complaining, just explaining.

Maybe. I can bring the pump valve right to the store. They only use Weatherhead brand connectors, so if I find one that fits, I'll get a price on the 3 fittings and the hoses made up and compare from there.
