Re: My 52 GMC Build
Glad it helped Johnny
Finished the trans hump today bit of sanding and drill some holes in the firewall. Weld up the battery cover. Then I think the cab is done being welded on.

Bob, I just went through your thread from the beginning. Truck looks great, congrats on the awards. Will you be going back to Paris for the fall show? BTW, Johnny Lambridge lives just up the street from me!

Re: My 52 GMC Build
thats one of the best uses of a "big truck" frontend I have seen. most guys would have just found the 1/2 ton stuff. I like that you made your own bed box too, I cruise the local ads every day and buy about every half ton bed I see, coulda just made one!

Re: My 52 GMC Build
My guess is the owner or builder likes the look of the Chevy better. Or a lack of good GMC parts availability to the builder would cause the switch. Me, I like the looks of both and would be happy with either. I have a ton of AD Chevy front end parts and no GMC , likely due to production volume differences. There are more Chevy's around.

yeah this is the reason right here. I got lucky with my 47 GMC, all the special GMC parts were there, and the guy even threw in a matching patina GMC tailgate. The only parts that were missing was the support brackets for the heavy 1 1/2 year only (47 to 48 1/2) GMC grille, but since it was mounting to an s10 frame they would not fit anyway. had the heavy duty 47 scooped front bumper too. I still have the 53 GMC 248 replacement motor kicking around here too. tried everything to sell it, worth more in parts looking at ebay so thats what I will do. I call them mustache trucks because the grille surround looks like a mustache haha.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
yah I'd say just less GMC's around. I'v come across some and have some parts for them. But you definitely see more chevy's. When you search for parts on CL or ebay, most always search under chevy. GMC is just a more specific deal all and all. Me personally I luv seeing GMC's. I think they are very cool. But some guys prolly don't like them as much as chevy. Kinda like a 54-55 vs a 47-53 truck, some guys luv the one piece windshield, some guys don't.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Hey lower50's,
About your Chevy vs GMC question... You might find this interesting, a GMC wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GMC_(automobile) Here's a little snippet: "Starting in 1920, GMC and Chevrolet trucks are virtually identical except for the grilles and nameplates, though their differences have varied over the years. From 1955 through 1959 small (less than 2 ton) GMC trucks with gasoline V8s were equipped with Pontiac V8s. Chevrolet trucks were marketed towards private ownership, while GMC was focused towards commercial uses." ps, nice job on your floor.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
looks like a decent bagged crowd. I just seen the patina blue truck on IG last night, how ironic.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Started the tear down. Finishing up a few welds on the cab. Getting ready to spray the lizard skin. I'll be doing a comparison before and after vid for temp and sound. Thought this looked bad ass.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
So last Tuesday and Wednesday I sprayed the Lizard skin Acoustic and thermal insulation in the cab. Nice product easy to use and it really makes the cab solid. Carpet will eventually go over this.
I should have my before and after video put together by the end of the week.
