Re: 1978 GMC Build!

I finally got the problem solver control arm shafts. So in the next week I should be able to get the front end rebuilt and get her tagged. Then new tires and on the road again.

Got the front end all torn apart. Having the upper and lower control arm bushings replaced and the new upper shafts put in the beginning of next week. New idler arm, pitman arm, inner and outer tie rods, upper and lower ball joints installed. Then a alignment and tagged.

Yep that's a crack in the frame. Looks like welding in the near future.

Re: 1978 GMC Build!

If you don't mind me asking what will the problem solver upper shafts do? I didn't know there was such a thing. Just figured the shafts were stock or owner modified. Glad to see you still plugging away.

Re: 1978 GMC Build!

The problem solver shafts are offset to push the top of the tires out. Because my truck is so low the tires tip in at the top. These will allow me to have the truck aligned.

Re: 1978 GMC Build!

Awesome man! I just read through your whole thread. It seems like its been quite a adventure throughout the years. Im sorry about your dad, but this will make an awesome truck for your daughter! I just turned 18 and i now have two trucks! gotta find time and money to start fixing them up. I accidentally put my 71 GMC into the ditch last week (Hey, I live in alaska lol) so thats gonna be my long term project, Just need front frame crossmember and fuel line) and my 78 GMC is gonna be my daily driver. Keep it up man! Cant wait to see it done!

Mike

Re: 1978 GMC Build!

Truck got tagged and aligned. Now I have a nasty exhaust leak on the passenger side. I blew out the little doughnut seal between the pipe and exhaust manifold. Its never ending

Re: 1978 GMC Build!

Thermostat was stuck open causing the truck not to warm up. Pulled it apart and the whole inside of the housing was rotted out and pieces were keeping it open. Got that changed and all is good now. Nice rat rod stance going on in this photo.

Man I like the headlights. Were did you get'em? I love those valve covers. They are the cats meow to me. No other valve covers are as cool.

Re: 1978 GMC Build!

The pattern is not bad. Not as good as I had hoped, but i don't plan on driving much at night. The high beam rocks however. Still better then stock.

Re: 1978 GMC Build!

Where did you get the sheet metal at? Mostly the doors. I need better doors but I've heard some bad things about replacement doors though. Any door is probably better than mine right now....lol.
