Re: 58 TRUK intro

Just got home 3732 miles total.

I must have bragged on truk too much. Lost fuel pressure driving thru Kentucky. Had to buy a Jack and stands to get truk up and drop the tank. The fuel line in the tank ruptured again. Piece of junk tank from No Limit Engineering. Was up running in a couple of hours

Re: 58 TRUK intro

my painter and his dad long hauled in the red 52 suburban
the power tour was their shake down cruise, they had a few breakdowns the first couple of days
ended up needing a new distributor, carb and the alternator went out on day 1
they had a spare 60 amp alternator, but couldn't run the air or the stereo with it
the electric fan took all the power it could make.

i long hauled with the blue 57 last yr, he only did muskegon to st louis with us this year
we kept in touch since meeting up on day 1 last year, he had other commitments to attend to this year.

i've never been one to sit at a car show for hours
once you do a power tour, all other car shows pale in comparison

Great looking pics, Ogre! Your little Truk is such a favorite of mine on this site. So well proportioned. Wheels, stance, color. Perfection.

3rd brake light

i had to drop my gas tank again to fix a reoccurring problem with the internal fuel line.
rob at no limit sent me a plastic fuel line that should be methanol resistant.

while i had the tank down i had easy access to all my rear light wiring, so i added a 3rd brake light.
i bought a 1 meter piece of led strip lighting on ebay for $5.72 shipped from china
and placed it in the truk trunk so the light shines thru the trunk gap.
i had seen a similar treatment to the bottom of truck tailgates.
the wire harness from ez wire had a 3rd brake light wire in the harness that i had run when i wired truk.

this is tail and brake lights

and brake lights only

Re: 58 TRUK intro

me too, need to got out a scope my tailgate area. It the led unit pretty well sealed up? I'll be using the truck and could see water getting up in that area on mine (below tailgate), even from routine washing.

Re: 58 TRUK intro

thanks guys...
yes they are waterproof with a clear flexible coating, plus they have double sided foam tape on the back
go to ebay and search for 1M 100CM IP65 Waterproof Red 5050 SMD 60 LED Strip
you want the 5050 led's they are brighter than the 3528
you can also cut them at every third led (aprox 2'') and solder on new power wires

my painter and stereo geek puts them everywhere in his 52 suburban
one idea i liked was he wrapped led lights inside his tail/brake lights to make his brake lights brighter

Very nice. There's nothing quite like a nicely lit rear end.

Re: 58 TRUK intro

Quick question since I know you've done it already...how did you route the drain on the vintage air? I didn't exactly plan ahead on this one. Thanks in advance.

I tried to do the heater valve your way and it ended up hitting the cowl. Guess I have my unit mounted higher in the dash. I relocated it inside the kick panel. Not ideal but it fit. Been making and installing a/c and heater hose all day. This stuff is going to be a tight fit!

Re: 58 TRUK intro

Very interesting build. I like your idea of eliminating the vents at the cowl but still want to have the loovers just because I like the way it looks. What suggestions do you have for that?
